| I had never had a dog before my maltese so I had no clue whatsoever. I did my research on the breed itself and nothing more. So one of my first questions would be, how much? And I probably asked more than one stupid question. I would have like so much for one breeder to give me a few seconds of their time to give me a small lecture on how and why. To atleast direct me to websites where there's more than color and weight of a dog. I used to think a dog was just a pet and now I'm totally an animal lover. Ok yeah there are some stupid people out there but hanging up on how much? that is plain rude. That's why there's still backyard breeders.

| Just got this inquiry. As I said before, you can only obtain my info from the YTCA breeder referral list. So, I'm hoping this person didn't send out a mass e-mail to all California breeders listed. This person didn't even have the grace to sign her e-mail Hello. I am looking for a female baby Bichon Yorkie. Preferably cream color raised in a home with potty training and some obedience training if possible. Please email me back if you have any that meet what I am looking for now or soon. Thank you.

but this was how I responded: To whom it may concern: Thanks for the inquiry. Since you’ve contacted me, you’ve obtained my information from the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America. I truly hope you have not contacted any other members on that list. As none of us would ever dream of cross breeding Yorkies. We only breed to improve the Yorkshire Terrier Breed. Let me further state, no reputable breeder would ever cross breed. I would strongly suggest you look at small breed rescues and/or shelters. Regards, Mary Lundgren

The majority of people don't know what is available to them. It's based on the old days. You bought a dog or found a dog and never expected much from the breeder. Things have evolved so much. Even those that we know have the money to spend, like celebrities....where do they go, bybers, pet stores, puppy mills, what do they buy, designer dogs.....

This thread was just meant for fun to share some of the silly questions that people ask. I do, however, spend a lot of time with my potential puppy owners, first contact is usually by phone and I have been known to spend hours talking to people, educating them, telling them the pros and cons of owning a yorkie, my goal is to find forever homes, so I need to make sure that potential owners know what they are getting into and that they are not wanting a pup on impulse. I always suggest reading material on the breed and will email them information on the breed. Some of the best owners of my babies are people that have never had a yorkie or even a dog before. It is just that you usually get a gut-feeling about people the first time you talk to them and I just go with my instincts. Audrey | |

| I posted in general about a perspective puppy buyer.. Short version.. 6 months ago spent 2 hours with her on the phone, and 3 hours in person. Decided to do more homework. Fast forward to yesterday comes and wants a tiny pup (male or female) to breed a teacup. Wants to know if a "teacup" can be bred to a Yorkie and register pups. And that a friend has a "teacup" that is 8 months old and needs sugar all the time or acts drunk. I politely...well as polite as I could under the stress...let her know that these pups are no longer for sale..she then tells me she just got her tax money and wants one...duh!! |

| Oh I have spent many hours educating this person. I did tell her my spay/neuter policy and she just basically acted like if she had the money that I should just sell her a dog... well these are not "dogs" . I think I spent my time talking to a person who is just going to buy a dog from someone else and breed no matter what I say. You just cannot fix stupid I guess and I feel bad for the puppy she does end up purchasing... |

You know there's a list of Ripoff breeders, AKC suspension lists. There should be a list for bad buyers that breeders can go to.....I know we screen very carefully, but it would be nice if breeders had such a list.
