Yep! What was amazing, was when I first became a member, I was PM'd by this person, asking to buy a dog from me or to use one of my studs. Evidently, this person's thoughts were I was either too dumb or too new and I would be anxious for either option. The person was extremely shocked with my answer; no I don't sell dogs to people I don't know personally, especially over the internet and my dogs aren't for public use.

Somehow I'm not shocked. It's become obvious to me that there are quite a few that just 'use' YorkieTalk for their own ends. For instance, some just use it as a place to post free ads, with a built-in market base.

I can't imagine someone being so forward with an exhibitor right out of the gate. I got my first quality dog from an exhibitor in New Orleans. My first contact with her was by phone. She invited me over but we never discussed my getting a dog until my second visit. I really think the only thing that made her give me a second look was that I brought my Heidi over with me and she was smitten with her. Still, nothing was automatic and it was quite unlike a 'business deal'.

Yes, but not all are aware of it. There are so many members that feel being a member of YT makes you reputable; either as breeder or a buyer.

When I went to pick up Rocky it was alot like this, we didn't actually discuss me taking home a dog at all I was coming to meet them and the breeder. There were 2 males that she was rehoming and I got on the floor with them and got to see their personalities. Teddy the other male wanted nothing to do with strangers in his house, and I could see that both boys loved the breeder very much. Rocky was so amazingly sweet and special and beautiful. We talked about ourselves, and yorkies and at the end I had the option to take Rocky home with me and that was the only time we discussed any price or contracts or anything, it was not automatic and I felt privileged to be able to meet her and be trusted with Rocky. I couldn't imagine calling a breeder and saying some of the crazy things that I have read on this thread

I really hope she was not punishing her children. Some of the things that people can do do their children without leaving physical scars are just sick, but sadly I can not think of any reasonable reason for this woman to do such a thing.

I get a phone call from a woman ... It's my little girls birthday and I don't have any money. I am calling to find a breeder who has " Lots" of puppies, so they won't mind giving me one.

I explained that I was unable to help her and she rambled about how she would give "It" a "Real good" home but just didn't have ANY money..

Woman, have you ever heard of a vet bill? A food bill? Treats? Toys? Bed?

Story 2 was the lady who called to ask about my 5 month old Puppies- She wanted to know if I had anymore and could she come get it at 4-5 WEEKS.
I explained that no breeder in their right mind would sell her a Yorkie puppy at that age and that if one did she was in for heartbreak when it DIED.
It didn't help, she said he just wanted one to sleep in the palm of her hand and she didn't want " It" to get no bigger than 2 pounds"

I think part of it is where we live. I get a ton of phycho's too.
I had a man call looking for a puppy. His Yorkie of 7 months had been RUN OVER. ummm No, you can't get one of mine, thank you.

Oh, and the breeders here are just as bad. Just look in the paper and you'll see Yorkies..."6 weeks old, shots and wormed, READY TO GO!" I think that feeds some of the ideas people have.

On the flip side, there are some very nice, caring people here. Like anywhere, you just have to careful when placing your babies. The ones that don't want to go through my process just don't get one of mine. I try to educate the ones that have unreasonable expectations so whatever pup they get doesn't suffer at their hands. I often spend a lot of time with folks that I know I don't have a baby for, just to educate them on the breed and what to watch out for in a breeder. The ones that don't want to listen I just say, "well, I'm sure there's someone out there that will tell you just what you want to hear".

Oh yeah, I see it too. I let mine go at 12 weeks or later in most cases. I have plenty of people tell me mine are too old. They want a 6 week old.
I would think they would want a healthy puppy...

I always offer to help people but only so many want the help or the info.

So to start it off I had a phone call a couple of days ago from a sweet young thing and this is how it went.

"Hello, I got your name from someone else. Have you got puppies?"
"Not right now?"
"Well, that's ok, I don't want one until July 15 anyways because that is the day I go back to work after my holidays. And I want a female, will you have one for me on July 15?"
"No, I don't think I'll have one for you July 15 or ever. Bye."

Audrey
Of course I'm not privy to the whole conversation, but I'm not sure I see what's wrong with this exchange. This person was looking to acquire a female dog at a particular time when they could devote some time to the newly acquired puppy before returning to work.
Interesting enough availability of a puppy at a particular time was my deciding factor between two different breeders. All things being equal, one puppy was available to come home with me during my vacation. Despite the breeder preferring to keep her another week, she was 12 weeks and had had two sets of shots on the first day of my vacation, to which I explained to the breeder, that I felt bringing a new puppy home it was important I could be there and devote myself to this new change for the puppy rather than waiting the next week when I would not be home daily for it and therefore any benefit the puppy might gain from remaining with her another week may not be greater than the adjustment period coming to a new home. The breeder thought about that and agreed.
This person may not have articulated all the reasons behind their initial questions and they may have been someone who truly wanted the best for the puppy and timing can be important. No one knows if you will have puppies available on July 15th or any other time unless they ask, therefore the question seems very reasonable to me.

I think the person Audrey is referring to wanted the pup after their vacation, when they were returning to work. It seems like they didn't want a new pup to interfere with their vacation.

As others have stated...I too was worried when I saw the title to this thread but, pleasantly surprised!

After all, the last thing we need is a crash course on the right way to interview with a Breeder or Rescue!

Yes, this person wanted a pup "after she got back from holidays on her first day back to work". She actually asked if I did have pups would I hold on to one a little longer so she could take her vacation. I would actually consider letting a pup go up to a week early so someone would have their vacation to spend with their new pup instead of getting the new pup and going straight to work. Also, she spoke as if she were talking to a department store where she could just order what she wanted, when she wanted. Sadly, I cannot wave a magic wand and conjure up a girl pup for July 15. She then proceeded to tell me that she would spend the last couple of days of her vacation setting up a place in the basement for her new pup.
