Embarassed Anyone know about Still Kennels?

Okay, I have been reading about "GrannyPuppies" on the forums. I almost bought a puppy from that horrible lady. I ended up buying from David and Gloria Still in Purdy, MI. My experience was pretty much the same as the people who bought from Granny Puppies. I was wondering if anyone else has bought a pup from Gloria. What was your experience? Was my experience just an isolated event?

When I received "Lolo" She was dirty, greesy and sick. I rushed her to the vet. She had kennel cough and was throwing up. I did have her shipped via air plane but she was very ill.

Please let me know if any of you know anything about Still Kennels. I am wondering about the conditions there.

Still Kennels is on the USDA "puppy mill" list. Missouri has been nicknamed the Puppy Mill Capital of the US. It's buyer beware when buying a puppy from anyone in that state.

Thank you for the feedback. I figured something was up. Loli was dirty, sick and just plane scared. She would hide from my husband and I for the first 2 weeks. I feel bad for supporting that place but I am so grateful for my baby. So, the state is aware os Still Kennels is there anything we can do?

USDA kennels are perfectly legal here in the US.

It is in Purdy, MO. I have been there and they keep their puppies in 2x2 cages and none of the adults will come to you unless you trap them. No socialization at all. They are an older couple and sure they just need the money but they don't need to be getting it by breeding dogs for sure.

To the poster that said beware of buying dogs from Missouri, you are dead wrong. There are lots of good breeders here, you just have to be careful no matter what state you are getting a puppy from.

Default Still Kennels

I didn't know they were on a list of puppy mills but I went there when looking for my first baby and that is exactly what my husband and I said about them when we left there. I wanted to load all those poor babies in my car and bring them home with me We had bought pomeranians in the past from a very reputable breeder in Nixa Mo. and knew that her kennel was always imaculate with lots of room for the babies to run and play as well as the parents. And the puppies and parents always as clean as the inside of a home so this was quite a shock for us to see how these babies were being raised. We saw the parents of the little yorkies she had and they were beautiful dogs but looked warn out from having so many litters back to back. I am glad your little one is doing ok now

I didn't say there weren't any good breeders in Missouri. There are five on the YTCA breeder referral list.

Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club

What I did say is that Missouri is known as the Puppymill Capital of the US which is true, like it or not. You have to be extra careful to screen any breeder form that state since there are more puppymills there than in any other state.

And you are right. No matter where you get a puppy, you have to be very careful.

Love Still Kennels Missouri MY THUMBS UP!!!

Hi i got a beautiful little yorkie girl from Gloria and David Still. I got her December 5th. She weighs 3 lbs 2 ounces now and is 8 monthes old. I think they were GREAT!! I got a healthy puppy with all her shots, guarentee on her health for 1 year along with her knees. They flew her to Philadelphia airport in a crate with food and water. Along with medicine for stress and worms. Also all instructions on how to care for her and food for her to get her started. She is just perfect. I took her to the vet and said she is in great health. I called Gloria a few times for answers on different things and she was always VERY helpful. I would buy from them again in a heartbeat and I also recomend them to everyone that sees my babay and wants one. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about them

You are from Seattle.

May I ask, why would you buy a puppy online (read - -try to find some puppy mills/backyard breeders somewhere in Midwest which is puppy mill belt region (Missouri, etc), when you can find it locally?

Please, read the topic

http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pac...a-state-3.html

Please, just be careful when you are looking for a yorkie pup in WA area. Unfortunately, many back yard breeders around. I used to communicate with show breeders from YTCA, and they told me that most of them from Olympic Peninsula, Snohomish. Also, there are a puppy mills in Snohomish, Tacoma, Sultan, Arlington, Marysville, etc.

The best choice is YTCA.org since most of show responsible breeders belong to a club.

Please, just be careful when you are looking for a yorkie puppy. Unfortunately, many back yard breeders and puppy mills in the US.

Before you chose a breeder please do your homework what responsible breeder is and its code of ethic. Just google "back yard breeder vs responsible breeder"

Below a few tips:

- reputable breeder will not sell yorkie earlier that 10 weeks. Run from a breeder who sell a pup at age less that 8 weeks. It is illegal to sell puppies younger that 8 weeks.
- reputable breeder will never ever sell puppies to a third party (broker/pet store)
- reputable breeder will try to avoid shipping and try to find a local buyer.
- reputable breeder must show at least one parent. If a breeder doesn't show the parents of puppy, this is huge RED FLAG of puppy mill.
- reputable breeder must give you a guarantee. And WITHOUT frase "no money back, only replacement a puppy". Too many sad stories when BYB sell sick puppies and no one pay a vet bills, even if pup died. Just think - do you really want to replace for another defective puppy from a BYB? Protect yorself - discuss about possible vet bills in a case of sick puppy.
- PLEASE READ STANDARD. (When I was looking for a pup, I was told that yorkie standard is 10-12 pounds). There are a few quality of yorkies (pet/show), and some breeders charge way too much money for a POOR BREED pup (fluffy coat, disproportional body, oversize, etc)
- NO such a thing as tea cup or whatever. Those word people love to use as marketing words. There is ONLY one standard: not exceed 7 pounds ! Period.
RUN from a breeder who breed too tiny yorkies less that 3 + pounds. Either run from a breeder who breed out of standard yorkies.
- Reputable breeder ALWAYS sells pet quality puppies with limited registration (spay/neuter)
- Reputable breeder must do genetic tests (for instance, luxating patellas). Those, who have any of genetic desease CANNOT be used for breeding. Run from a breeder who breed sick dog. ALWAYS ask for approval of genetic tests. Protect yorself. Luxating patella surgery is very expensive.
- Reputable breeder tries to find a best home for puppy and always will ask many questions.
- Reputable breeder does not breed more that one breed. Two are acceptable, more is definitely a puppy mill.
- Reputable breeder does not have puppies all the time and has a waiting list. According some definitions, if breeder has more that 3 litters in a year, it considers as a puppy mill.
- reputable breeder will not sell yorkie to a family with small children - yorkies are too fragile and not good match with small children.

Check references, call to AKC, etc. before you buy a puppy.

To review a references on particular breeder, go to

Wags & Wiggles Teacups User Reviews - Snohomish, WA 98290 - Citysearch

good luck

About online sales:

However, a dog is not a "product" and professionals agree that buying a dog online is irresponsible, dangerous and contributes to the problem known as, "puppy mills."

on top of that, so many yorkies for adoption right now in Seattle eria, because of recent puppy mill raid. Check those organizations:

Seattle Humane (please, note they do have yorkies, just don't advertise them online, they go fast)

Default Still Kennels Missouri MY THUMBS UP!!!

Hi I spoke to Gloria for about 1 month before I purchased her and and got aquainted with her. She sold me my Chloe at 4 monthes old. I searched for quite a while before I got her about a year. I live in New Jersey. I was responding to a question someone posted about having a bad experiece with the kennel. I did not. They were quite friendly and even called to see how she was doing, also was very helpful with questions I had along with the great information she shipped to me. I just wanted that person to know that maybe her bad experience was an isolated case. Oh also I was a little leary of buying online because I did not know these people from adam, but as I said I w spoke to her reguarly for about a month before she shipped her to me

IMXO, no matter what experience you have if this kennel IS puppy mill. I am also very happy with my girl (who came directly from breeder), however after I found out who is my breeder (puppy mill), I would never ever advertise her as you're doing right now.
Puppy mills are horrible things, and supporting them is wrong idea.
It is good that your puppy is healthy (although it is still a pup, genetic problems will show up later), but please do not advertise those who are well known as puppy mill.
If Still kennel in puppymill database, it should tell you something. You wrote "maybe her bad experience was an isolated case" . If it was only one case... But they are in puppy mill database, that means they have maaaaany complains, and proved info that they ARE puppy mill.

You obviously have not seen how that poor puppy had to live before you got her. I have been there that is where my puppy is from. Only reason we bought him was to get him out of that filthy place. I called and drove 3 hours and when I got there he was filthy feces hanging off of him and smelled terrible. I couldnt bare to leave him there. Then after I got him I sent for his papers. His sire and dam are BROTHER AND SISTER!!!! I would never buy from those people again. Those babies are kept in tiny cages with absolutely no bedding even in winter their entire life until sold. It was 14 degrees the day we went and yes there was a heater in the tiny SHED and it was not even on. It was freezing in there. So you may buy from them again but I will do all I can to make sure everyone on here and other websites knows it is a PUPPY MILL. They have 5 breeds of dogs all living in those conditions with 2 people in their 60's to take care of them. Now you tell me what kind of care they get??????

Dog still kennels-my story

2 years ago I bought 2 chihuahuas from petland total cost of the pups were 3,000..I did not know at that time that all the ups were from puppy mills. they got sick the next day I rused them to the vet. they had provo and distemper to save them the total vet bill was 6,000. they both died. I found out one of the pups was from Still Kennels. So I called Still kennels and spoke to Gloria. She was very nice, I also sent her the Picture of her very sick puppy I bought. Since then we email eachother and became email friends. She is really not a bad person. taking care of that many dogs is alot of work and thier income. She really helped me when I welped my first litter of yorkes. She knows alot about breeding and welping dogs. Not all her dogs are sick. sometimes in transport they get sick and being with other puppies weakens thier immune system. Now do not get me wrong-I do not support puppy mills. But when it comes down to it she is a wonderful and caring person.
