| ![]() on those little ones, keep them nursing as much as you can. they should be nursing virtually every minute they are awake. that is awfully tiny.

weights make much more sense!! ![]() NO NUTRICAL for those tiny ones or any newborn pup their systems cant handle it this young, white karo a minor drop would be ok. you should let the tiny ones on the teat often and begin supplimenting the larger ones (the ones in the 3's) but that being said none of those are larger...these kids need feeding every two hours your main concern would be dehydration...I would hold off docking tails and declaws at least until 5 days old unless you get a great weight gain, I dont until theyre at least 3.5 - 4 oz and I know their strong enough to handle it... I would weigh them 3 times a day documenting it... morning, noon and night...that will tell you how each one is doing! I dont envy you this will be a lot of work getting those weights up, I wish you all the best if you need help feel free to call me 503-777-4224

She's so small and I'm scared she's not going to make it, what is the next step to keeping her alive if she's not taking the moms nipple or the bottle nipple ![]() Do I need to try the beef remedy? or wait? Last edited by lowviscosity; 03-28-2008 at 12:32 PM. | |

| ![]() I am praying for you. Kim is excellent and I would take her up on the offer of a phone call - it sounds a little critical for the little ones so I would want to speak with someone ![]() |

| ![]() are you giving the little ones anything besides milk.......i dont breed so this may sound silly but i would probably be trying high cal high sugar drinks or powder mixes....anything to save them......if it seems you maybe losing them anyway it would be worth the try.....i dont know like i said i am not a breeder..

its not that it would cause upset stomachs, its like if you gave a new born human baby a power drink...common sense says NO! healthy puppy is firm, plump, and vigorous. Puppies should nurse every 2 hours or so. If they nurse until their stomachs appear round and they sleep quietly, they are eating enough. If they are crying and moving a lot, they are not eating enough. They may be swallowing air, which makes the stomach appear larger. As they become weaker, they will lay still and not cry. A puppy may lose weight in the first 24 hours (less than 10% of birth weight), but after that, the weight should increase steadily. Their weight should double in the first 7-10 days. Before, during, and after nursing, the bitch will lick the stomach and perineal area to stimulate urination and defecation. She will continue to do this for 2-3 weeks. Puppies should gain 1-2 grams/day/pound of anticipated adult weight. Weigh the puppy daily for the first 2 weeks, then weigh at least weekly. A food scale typically works well for weighing the puppies. Failure to gain weight is often the first sign of illness in puppies.
