| I need help - beware of graphic pic Hey!! I just broguth Zoe back from the vet after his neuter and he seems to b ok except that he's a little out of it. He's having trouble peeing, he keeps sitting afte a few steps, not very playful. I know this is normal but how long is it supposed to last? Also, the vet told me the the wound would expand, swell and bruise for the next few days. Is this true? I also was NOT given and pain medication. Should I be worried? There is a pic of the wound and him resting. Is this normal? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

in the pictures, are those staples that they used? that's what it looks like. i've never seen staples used in neuter. Alot of vets don't give males pain meds because their surgery is less invasive then a females. they heal quicker and the suture site is smaller. Don't be worried, he'll be better tomorrow. just let him sleep it off. | |

| Thank you! You have been a great help! What I mean by him having trouble peeing is that he keeps sitting on the pad and then when he finally does pee, he leaks when he's done. Not just tiny droplets. I know he's fine. I'm just neurotic.

| Awww poor baby looks so pitiful. Give him a big kiss for me. When I had Louie fixed they did lazor (sp ??) surgery and he really didnt have any marks on him...like cuts or stitches....but they did give him pain meds. I think that is strange that they didnt give the poor little guy anything. Its probobly just uncomfortable for him to pee. He will be his old self again in a couple of days. I know its hard, but try not to worry too too much. Good luck and give him our love.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Could just be the anesthetic. Watch him. Hopefully by tomorrow, he'll be able to pee just fine. He WILL be sore for quite a few days. Don't expect too much from him and by all means, keep him from jumping around...especially with the stitches in. Keep the area clean. He SHOULD do this on his own but keep checking it for any redness, heat (to the touch) and any other signs of infection.

| Get well soon Zoe!!! His incision will be swollen for a few days. You will be surprised what a few hours will do for him. Tomorrow he will be so much better. Just watch the site for redness, fever and any other signs of infection (like a nasty drainage). My vet closed Oscar's incision with what appeared to be wire sutures...I know it was wire because the ends were very prickly. He took them out at about 10 days. He never acted like it bothered him either. When he starts feeling better he is going to want to run and play...try to keep him calm if you can!!! And in closing, you are not being neurotic! You love your baby and we all TOTALLY understand what you are going thru right now!!!

| I am so glad to see I am not the only one that freaked out about the neuter. My vet was extremely cool about giving me pain med for him though - he gave me Buprenex which seems to work very well. I was concerned about itching as the incision heals, but am not sure about using Neosporin or Peroxide on the stitches - the post op instructions say no water in the area but... |

| Okay guys do vets do this all differently. When Starsky was neutered they kept him overnight. When I went to pick him up the next day he was totally normal. I had to calm him down as I didn't want him to hurt anything. I did get pain pills for him which I gave to him at night, but I almost don't think he needed any. I never had to take him back to have the stitches removed either. They just disolved, I guess. I am shocked to hear about how much pain your little guy is having. I would may be call another vet and get another opinon over the phone. (just to see if this is normal)

| I picked Buddy up the same day - just a few hours after the surgery. Now he is finally normal (2nd day since surgery) - no more pain meds. He seems happy - tail up. He's scratching at his e-collar, but not too bad. Peeing and pooping normal (a little diarrhea, I assume from the leftover pain meds). He is currently trying to kill his Big Mean Kitty toy. I am hoping there is no more trauma! I have to bring him to daycare tomorrow and I'm worried about how he'll do, staying in a crate all day (which is what they do for "convalescents" - they just let them out to pee and poop and cuddle them a bit). |

| I just had my Toby neutered last Monday. He was sleepy for a for hours after he came home but was chasing bugs again by the end of the night. The area did swell a little but it didn't seem to bother him at all, but I did buy pain meds just in case as they were an add on option. I have never used an e-collar on any of my kids when they have gotten neutered. It just isn't really necessary unless they bother them badly and neither of mine did.

| I must say that incisioin looks a bit painful. All I could see at Topher's wound site was two little stitches...that's the only way I could tell he had surgery. There was no bruising at all. After a couple of days I did notice a minute discharge so the vet gave us an antibiotic just to be on the safe side...also he was given pain med immediately following surgery. He was bouncing around like normal after about 6-8 hours. He was more careful, I could tell, when playing, but that only seemed to last for a day or so. There's no harm in having the vet check for infection, just to be on the safe side. It does sound like he's having pain so that does concern me. |
