| Unfriendly Neighbors Any suggestions on how to get my two yorkies accustomed to our new neigbors and their two dogs? They are barking back and forth and running back and forth along the fence. I can't tell if they are playing or really angry. I hate to hold my babies hostage inside, because they love to be outside and to play tag with each other. Please help!!!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I had the same problem - all I can say is keep a good eye on your fence - we had a pitt move in next door (now it's gone) but I had to go reinforce my fence (not pretty!) The pitt and the normally nice dog chewed thru the little spy holes that were there - I was so worried my girls would get hurt... I slapped every kind of board and brace I could find ...now I have a terrible looking fence on one side but nothing will get thru it - they had fun racing the fence but I know a larger dog could easily hurt them playing or not |

| We recently moved into a new house. Our new neighbors are RUDE. They have a huge yellow lab mix. Dog looks very nice but my neighbors allow him to roam unattended. They have no fence. My backyard is fenced. There male dog comes into my front yard and poos and pees. I would never allow my dogs to do this...if so I would at least go and clean it up. No effort was made on thier part until my husband went over and said something to them. They still allow thier dog to roam unattended. They also have a cat that roams. But this weekend they have a visitor over that had a dog and my husband was working on the backyard...so he had our gate open. We had strange dogs in our backyard My dogs were in the house at the time but what if they were out...who knows what would have happened. |

They have a cocker spaniel (sp). She comes in my yard ALL the time and tries to go to the bathroom. Naturally I run her off screaming. They let the dog loose so often (which is against the rules of my neighborhood) that she wanders for hours on end. She ended up at another one of my neighbors houses (2 houses to the left of me) and took a crap right on her porch. I got fed up and called the police dept. (Where I live its VERY private and secluded. We have out own police and fire dept.) Now, I hate being "that" neighbor, but for f*cks sake, enough is enough. I cant tell you how many times I almost ran over that dog. She either lies under my tires as I back out of my LONG driveway, or she run in front of cars in the road. Finally these morons across the street got a fence for her but it's an electric underground fence. I personally do not agree with electrocuiting (sp) a dog. Doesn't matter though. The fence only works if she has a collar on, and she usually doesn't. So ofcourse, she still gets loose.

| I did go through this all the time too when we bought our house. The people that live behind us have a doberman and they just open the door and let it run. My boyfriend has a black lab springer spaniel mix and we used to chain him up when he had to go potty since the yard wasn't fenced at that time. One day this doberman came running up into our yard and charged at my boyfriends dog. I got into the middle of it and had a tiki torch in my hand (not that it would do anything since they are made very cheaply but its all that I could find) and I whacked the dog with it just as he was getting ready to grab ahold of our dog. It ran off. Then a week or so later I was out tending to the flower bed that is at the back of our yard and what do I step in wearing flip flops??? The mother load of dog poo. I knew that it wasn't a pile from our dog because I had picked it all up the previous day and his chain didn't reach that far. I was MAD!!!. So I got the shovel and picked it up and threw it in thier yard. The woman saw me do this and she came walking out looking like she was about to partake in a standoff in an old western. We exchanged words. I then told her that if she didn't keep her dog on a chain I would make sure that she pays for it since I was at that time working at the animal shelter in my area. These people have no repect for anyone in this neighborhood. I made sure that we fenced in our yard when we got Memphis. I dont want that big ol doberman to get ahold of him. One of my best friends has a pair of dobes and they are the nicest lovable dogs. I babysit them occasionally when he goes out of town but I dont want ANY strange dog in my yard. Good luck with your neighbors.................... |

| As long as we are venting about neighbors, I gotta have a turn. Our mailbox is an original steel lamp post. The dang dog across the street, pees and poos on the base of it. One day I was coming home and the dang dog's owner was standing there with him while he did his business. They have a fenced yard, but don't want to clean up their own dogs' crap. This dang dog has peed on my mailbox so many times, that the acid is eating away the steel. That particular day, she asked me what color I used on the post and she would paint it. I told her forget it. Recently, I used StripEase and stripped it down to the bare metal. She pulled up and asked what color I was going to paint it. I told her I was leaving it UGLY so maybe your dog will quit Pissing on it. Her mouth fell open. Since then, I have had my mailbox rocked. I don't know who was more offended by me rocking the mailbox---her or the dog. Okay done. Who's next? |

| Well, if you're asking..... My neighbours' son (dear little boy) has played a game with my dog for the last few years. He waits until Tobes is near the adjoining fence and throws a ball, or kicks the fence and laughs when Toby barks at him. Ha ha very amusing. The problem is such that now he goes mad barking etc, whenever children walk past the garden. I feel so angry that we now have this problem because of this child. |

| We have a great place now, about 1/2 acre lot all the back is fenced. Lovely neighbor with no dogs, and loves our (of course they are on a leash if out front.) Our across the alley neighbor just got a barker they leave outside all the time. I am just trying to get bronx to learn to ignore him. I tell him "No" when he runs back there to bark with him. If he won't come back, I walk towards him and he runs to the door and flops on his back. Zoe ignores him anyway. Our last house we got new neighbors with a bull mastif, the dogs chewed a small hole in the fence and I know in my heart that he pulled my dog through that hole and shook her into a rag. It was horrible - about 10 kids playing out front spotted him shaking her and ran to tell me. Another neighbor had called his owner and she raced home. She had her husband take the pup out and shoot it. It was horrible and sad for all of us, she and I both had 2 young boys, and for the next ten years we always had a rather strained relationship. They even put up a chain link along our fence to make sure there was never another incident. Every time someone tells me their big dog has never hurt another, I reply "I think every time a large dog kills a small one, the owner says 'he has never done that before'. Sorry, keep your big dogs away from my little ones. and I will do the same for you. PS: In our city a pit bull is illegal unless it is in a run with a cement floor and a chain link. I will shut up now. (yeah, right)

| We had a similar problem with the children in our rural subdivision. When they got off the bus, some would gather rocks, or drag sticks down the chain link fence. My heelers would go crazy. I gathered the children one day and explained to them that what they were doing was dangerous. These dogs are protecting the property. Anyway, the little talk didn't work. My husband finally went to the children's parents and talked to them nicely. The children denied it, but it sure was strange that they never teased my dogs again. Maybe a nice visit to your neighbor might help. |
