Yes........mommas can and do eat their young, as will other dogs that are allowed to "visit" with newborns....They can accidently eviscerate the puppy, trying to chew the cord off....I always do my own cords and then allow mom to clean puppy off.....and all females are watched very, very closely for any abherrant behavior towards any of the babies.....especially maidens.

Sounds like dog abuse. I would report her to Animal Control. Those facilities need a good investigation and she needs some education by the authorities. It sounds as if she has way more dogs than she can adequately even begin to care for properly. Dogs should never have to live cramped up in cages or in a filth-filled home! They deserve to live free, a good and fun dog's life of fetching balls and sticks and running in the yard chasing squirrels and cats, napping evenings by the fire with mommie or daddy and tucked up for the night with love, getting several daily walks and presents for birthdays and Christmas - just like the family member a dog should be. Horrible picture in my mind about how you described that house and those dogs' quarters. Reading about dogs having to live their lives cramped up in cages like zoo animals or something goes against every fiber of my being. Why does she have so many?

If these dogs are living in filth, cramped cages and are not being cared for properly someone needs to be informed and this person needs a visit by the proper authorities !!

I completely understand why you want your AKC papers. When I rescued my Yorkie, he had been registered with the AKC but because his old owner would not surrender the papers. Because he had been in the animal shelter, the AKC wouldn't release the papers because he was no longer "pure bred material". As a law student and future attorney who wants to work in animal law, the AKC papers don't prove purchase of sale and they don't do much of anything unless you would like to show the dog or be recognized at your local AKC kennel.

I know this will make several people mad, but the AKC doesn't even guarantee health of the dog and they honestly mean nothing but more $$$$. I can't even report the old owners of my dog to the AKC as people not to allow to buy breeds anymore even though they threw him out to the coyotes quite literally.

This is just another example of why it's so important to establish a good relationship with you breeder before committing to purchasing a puppy. Many are still out there who don't give a hoot about you or the puppy once they have your money,

WOW...you are right about it being an eye opener! They only have 9 inspectors for the whole country!!! Not even close to what I think is nearly enough. I'm just really speechless right now...

I know right! It makes me very very sad I believe all dog breeders should want to breed out of the goodness of their heart, to make the breed better, and make lifelong companions and best friends. Sounds like that lady in Colorado has lost the message.

And if you are dealing with a breeder that is TRULY committed to her breed and her dogs, she will be establishing a relationship with YOU before she entrusts her dogs to you! If your breeder is not that attentive and inquisitive and concerned....run! Because, as some "breeders" see it, the "problem" with establishing a relationship with someone you sell a puppy to, is if that baby gets sick later down the line, these new owners are going to come looking for you to help them.....they certainly dont want to be setting themselves up for problems in the future....!!!! So be sweet, cordial, get that puppy sold, then get scarce.....

It sounds like I am very lucky that I come out with a very good dog!

I did not mention that after we had Tawny a short time we had to take her to the vet with a very very bad stomach ailment. At that time we had her completely tested and everything was okay. After this stomach problem was solved and $700, she is in excellent health.

Did you call the "authorities" about what was going on there? You need to do something about this...please update.
