I completely understand why you want your AKC papers. When I rescued my Yorkie, he had been registered with the AKC but because his old owner would not surrender the papers. Because he had been in the animal shelter, the AKC wouldn't release the papers because he was no longer "pure bred material". As a law student and future attorney who wants to work in animal law, the AKC papers don't prove purchase of sale and they don't do much of anything unless you would like to show the dog or be recognized at your local AKC kennel.

I know this will make several people mad, but the AKC doesn't even guarantee health of the dog and they honestly mean nothing but more $$$$. I can't even report the old owners of my dog to the AKC as people not to allow to buy breeds anymore even though they threw him out to the coyotes quite literally.
