| Loving home available for yorkie in need Kansas City area Hello All, I am looking for a yorkie in need of a home. I am NOT looking for a puppy from a breeder, I simply want to give a home to a dog that is a rescue or in a situation where the current owner can no longer care for it. I am a loving pet owner with two cats, both dog friendly, one likes to snuggle with dogs and groom them. I recently lost my golden retriever about 2 months ago due to a heart condition, then sadly my yorkie past away on Thursay during surgery. He and I had bonded even more after the passing of the golden and now I find myself at a loss without either of them. This is the first time in my life I have been without a dog and sadly my lil' yorkie was a rescue that I only had for just under two years. I am looking for something about 5lbs. or less, I would be open to ones a little bigger but just really like that size. I am open to a yorkie, biewer, parti, golden or mix, whatever doesn't really matter. Just want something that wants to cuddle and be spoiled, one that travels well, is healthy, spayed/neutered, UTD shots and with good teeth (my guy was having dental surgery). I live in Kansas City but am willing to travel to pick up. Behavioral issues are not a big deal to me as I have trained dogs in the past and am comfortable with these things as long as I know up front and can address the issue immediately. I have looked into several rescues but unfortuantely there aren't too many locally, I do know there are a lot of puppy mills in this area so I would assume someone knows of a place that has some of these guys that need homes. I am also open to a breeder release that has retired their dog, sex does not matter either, nor age. thanks for any help, Amanda |

| I would suggest looking on Petfinder using your zip code. There are so many yorkies looking for homes! One thing I will advise is that looking for a tiny pup is often looking for medical issues...and most yorkies do need dentals. It is not common for pups to die during dentals. You are more than likely not going to find a yorkie that will never need a dental...especially the small ones. Good luck to you in your search. I am sorry about your losses....so sad they happened so close together. Finally, be VERY careful about responding to private messages regarding breeder releases. There are people who lurk and look for people like you...and often the outcome is not good. Their pups may very well not be very healthy. You want to make sure you are dealing with reputable people!

| There has been an ad in the KC Star for someone who had retired breeding dogs to rehome for like $50. |

| The very last place I would look for a pup would be in online classifieds. I know a lot of people do...and sometimes they get lucky, but so many pups in those ads are problems as are the people who are selling them. In my opinion, any breeder who was advertising retired pups for $50 is nothing but a greeder....no reputable breeder would do that. More than likely you would be purchasing some serious vet expenses...and probably some behavioral issues as well. OP you said you just lost two and you also said you wanted to avoid dental issues ... I would caution you about looking online because anyone selling pups for $50 more than likely has never properly vetted their pups. If you are ready to deal with these issues and possible heartbreak sooner rather than later, then I guess go ahead. I would definitely ask anyone selling a pup for their vet's name and a copy of all medical records for that pup before I would deal with them.,....that also includes rescue. Rescue should properly vet a pup and give you all information known to them about that pup.

| I have to agree w LadyJane, please stay away from craigslist, ebay, those kinds of internet ads. We have had several members on here reply to those ads just to find the yorkie was not as represented in the ad - no papers, not vetted, no shots, not neutered, health problems, and even not the age claimed by the seller. There are rescues available. Also, if you look up Yorkshire Terrier Club of America's website, they have a breeder referral page (ytca.org). This list includes the breeders from this code of ethics breeders' club from different states. Sometimes breeders have older "pups" they kept hoping would work out for show but did not for one reason or another (coloring not right, size not right, etc). I got a year old and an 18 month old from one of these breeders in my area. Nice dogs: already neutered, housetrained, vetted - just did not turn out to be show quality.

| I am available to a good home, but not sure if I want to relocate. YTCA.ORG is a great place to start. Best of luck |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I just wanted to wish you good luck in your search. We found our (not so little) girl through a rescue we found on petfinder.com Oh, and watch out for Shodanusmc. I'm told his adoption fee is cheap, but his upkeep costs are out of this world

| Thank you for the tips everyone. The issue I have been having living in KC is I am in a prime puppy mill area so it seems a lot of ads are really puppy mill breeders misrepresenting themselves. I have even had the same issue with some rescues that when I go to see the dogs they are malnourished, in need of medical attention, no vet history etc. It is really disheartening to find so many people claiming to be a rescue but then clearly not have the dog's interest at heart. I completely understand a dog may need dental work especially in a tiny dog; I am just leery about going through that situation again and another dog dying. I would hope if a dog came from a rescue that ALL medical care that could be done would be. But I do understand a dog may need it again in the future. I was hoping someone knew a reputable breeder that was retiring a dog or someone on here was in need of a good home for their dog; I just feel this site is quite a bit safer than others. I can always wait until after the holidays for those "impulse" dogs that will need homes when the "fun" wears off for a lot of people. SO if everyone can keep there ears open I'd appreciate it. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I just wanted to warn you about something thing. It's an unfortunate fact of life that some not so scrupulous people read YT and use it to find buyers. Please take care in evaluating any pm's you receive regarding available dogs. Go over them with the same degree of scrutiny you would any other offer.
