There are rescues available. Also, if you look up Yorkshire Terrier Club of America's website, they have a breeder referral page (ytca.org). This list includes the breeders from this code of ethics breeders' club from different states. Sometimes breeders have older "pups" they kept hoping would work out for show but did not for one reason or another (coloring not right, size not right, etc). I got a year old and an 18 month old from one of these breeders in my area. Nice dogs: already neutered, housetrained, vetted - just did not turn out to be show quality.
That is good advice about the YTCA ... did not think of that.
