You can also see why I thought she would be too dark, these were taken in May.....she fooled me! LOL

I didn't see anything wrong with the color at that age She's got nice color. She didn't look to dark too me at least in the picture. That's why I say pictures aren't always the best in trying to get opinions LOL

LOL See That proves it!!! I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.LOL Seriously I have so much to learn. I have some great mentors in my club here in Houston. They just nominated me to the Board of Directors and have helped me so much. They know how dedicated I am to the Yorkshire Terrier breed. I am grateful and honored to serve.

For now I have my new boy Reve, maybe Shyloh will come through for me and I am on the hunt for another show prospect. I want another baby after the holidays. I have been researching and watching for over 2 years now. It's time for me to get my feet wet and get out there. Only one way to learn. I really respect the dedication it takes to acheive a championship but I'm quite aware it is not an easy task. If it was easy everyone would be doing it. I have learned so much by attending show after show but I want to have my dog in the ring. But I also know that as much as I learned....there is a ton I still need to learn. SOoo with that said, I'll just keep working...

Pam, first off I have to say your girl is really pretty. I have to agree with most of what the others have said. She does look a little down faced but sometimes the angle of the camera can make it look that way too, especially if she is looking down.

In the first group of pictures her topline looks good, her rear legs are stretched out pretty good. In the second set of pictures the 2nd and 4th picture she appears a little higher in the rear, shoulders are lower but her rear legs are not stretched out as much. You need really study her movement and see if she is moving level. If you have a video camera and can have someone video you moving her on a lead with head up that will tell you a lot.

As for the ears, my Yogi has similar ears. When he is alert his ear set looks beautiful but if he is tired or unhappy (like in the show ring) he will let his ears down. If your girl has a good attitude and will be alert in the ring it might not hurt her too much.

Like the other ladies said, these are just observations and to really tell one would have to see her in person. Just remember, none of them are perfect. I am really excited for you getting into showing. I think you will do just fine.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I think that as she is maturing she is becoming more confident. As I have been working with Stryker and Reve I really never worked with her. She is a submissive bitch and tends to follow. She also rolls on her back immediately when approached so I assumed she would not show well. However as I'm working with her now she is doing pretty good. She was in conformation class with 4 dogs that were all over 50lbs and she did good. When she is afraid she drops her hind end and doesn't look straight. But all of mine do that. If she keeps her confidence up I think she will do fine. I am really impressed with her. I literally just started working with her. I got a grooming table at the show Saturday and it is very sturdy. I should not have put her on that unsturdy table. She was really afraid. Her confidence shows in the very last photo where she looks very alert. She is a very pretty girl and her coat is a dream. Getting her accustom to being handled is my objective now and growing her coat. She has been a lap dog so she's not use to having to work for treats. lol So that's my focus with her now. She is a pleaser so I have no doubt that she can do it.

Well, it sounds like you are doing great with her. I am sure you will bring out the best in her. I do wish you the best of luck with her and your boy. I am looking forward to seeing you at some shows next year.

I remember Yogi....he was oversized too wasn't he? Wasn't he just one of two that you brought into the ring about 2 1/2 years ago? Not sure....I know he's the one you got from Anne Wylie. It's been awhile since I've seen him tho

Yes, he is oversized. He is a nice boy but not perfect that is for sure. I showed a little bitch puppy a couple of times too but she did not pan out. That's the way it goes sometimes. Live and learn.

Then I do remember LOL...I hope you aren't still breeding him with being oversized....I can agree with breeding a bitch that is alittle bigger but I'd be afraid to breed a bigger sized male....I thought you had only shown two yorkies...as I get older my memory fails but I guess I still got it LOL....I thought I remember you showing a bitch at one time...wasn't that about 3 years ago?

Yes, the first time we met was at the Reliant shows over 3 years ago. I had a little soft coated pup and you were showing a tiny little girl. LOL.....I like them big and you like them little. Do you still have that last little girl you were showing? She sure was pretty. Yes, I am have used Yogi several times. He has produced some pretty pups. Some too small and some too big and some just right.

Well Shyloh is 5.9lbs, she is a solid girl. When I get that coat going again and have her some conformation classes under her belt, I'll repost her pics and maybe a video. She will be 2 in April of next year and we'll see where she's at then. Like I said Shyloh loves to please so I think that is in her favor.

I don't much like tiny...as she only got 3 points before I spayed her because of her size...she wasn't going to be bred. I actually like my bitches being shown in the 5 to 6 pound range personally, even my males. I don't try and have anything over 6 1/2 pounds. Her name was Krissy and she was just a 7 month old puppy at the time but again has since been spayed and ruling the roost. I just believe if you use an oversized male you will continue to get that and that is not what I believe we need to strive for in this breed. 5 1/2 to 6 pounds is what should be in a breeding program personally.
I guess you don't have much show experience if you have only shown two yorkies but maybe that will change when you get the funds to actively start showing. I don't mind a big yorkie and what I mean by big is up on leg if they are over 7 1/2 pounds they shouldn't be bred that is pet quality in my opinion but again that is just how I practice and was taught. Of course I don't breed unless I"m breeding for the show ring and not the pet population LOL

Glad you responded Donna, I was going to do it for you, since I know what your preferances and breeding practices are. You and I both were taught the same things......preferring our yorkies in the 5 to 6 1/2 pound range....But, perfectly balanced. Nothing like fighting weight, when they're in the ring, when they get much above that. I know you don't prefer small, it's something that happens and we take a chance when we breed for the show ring. You watch, train, wait and pray all pans out. At times the don't come together until they are a year old. An oversized yorkie you can pretty much see that's going to happen from the get go, we know they're going to have to be petted out........but, a smaller one....anything can happen

I know your reason for showing Krissy (beautiful lil girl).
We brought Tahlulah and her out at the same time. Both were small......Tahlulah grew.....to 5 1/2 pounds....Krissy decided to stay a forever puppy. I know you had high hopes for her, since everything about her was there. It's tough when one breeds in a limited scale, for themselves in hopes for that next Champion.

I know now why Lee was so tough on me, making me finish several Champions before I went near the whelping box. She was developing my eye. Making me learn everything I could.....knowing that I needed all the experience in the ring before I would ever be able to evaluate a dog with any sort of expertise.

Morning Donna......Never discussed this with you.....however, I'll ask you now. I know we all continue to learn, but when in your show career did you feel you could evaluate a show potential with any semblance of knowledge?

For me I didn't feel I knew enough about anything until I got in the ring and began winning consistently and had a couple of Champions under my belt....

I know what you mean! That was the way with Molly too, her sister was on the bigger side got to over 7 1/2 pounds as I predicted so she went into a loving pet home and I kept Molly for over a year hoping she would grow as well. Actually she did get to be alittle over 5 pounds but her size was still small compared to what I actually like in a breeding bitch. She had amazing structure, movement and everything else going for her and I had several say she would be fine to even breed BUT for me she was too small is size not weight. While I might breed a bigger bitch everything has to come into play. I could have kept Molly's sister because she had great lines but was a little over the size in standard I didn't want to run into having on the larger side puppies. She had great color, structure and movement and her coat was to die for in texture and color but her personality was a major factor too. She was a little more timid than I like for a breeding female as well.
This is such a hard breed to judge and whew can be very complicated for the show ring. Again, as we've stated many times the only way to really know what is right for the ring is to be out there and do and watch at the shows.
