This is a good question, glad you asked it! I'm actually still learning but like you it took me getting in the ring and getting a few champions under my belt but with that said...I've been showing now for about 6 years and I still have uncertainity in evaluations of my pups. I know what I want and what I like and what it takes but with my limited breeding I'm still taking it all in. I still ask my mentors and other exhibitor/breeders for their opinion while in the evaluation stage. But I strongly believe one has to be in the ring and out there and have a few champions under their belt. While I have my opinions I feel I have enough knowledge to evaluate in what i want to watch for the show ring and then go from there I hope that made some kind of sense LOL Donna

I know that I had a wonderful mentor in knowing what to look for......she saw things in the beginning that I didn't see or knew nothing about.......However, being in the ring and being around those greats that were willing to share their expertise with me.......well there's nothing like getting in there. I think we all continue to learn and lean on each other for advice. But, I agree one needs to get in the ring, Champion a few dogs, before you can offer any advice with some degree of intellegence.

I swear by my mentors and what they've given me and I cherish them. Over the last couple of years I've been blessed to have new mentors come into my life and friends in yorkies with the same passion I have!

I agree with you Donna. Being the nerd that I am, I have read and read and read everything I could find on showing, topknots, coat care, line breeding, and have spent countless hours researching different lines. But absolutely nothing has taught me more than actually going to as many shows as I can and taking my dog in rings after hours and talking with handlers and show exhibitors and helping out when I can (A little advice I got from you, Donna). That is something that cannot be learned online. So I'm sure I'll see you all soon at some shows and I'll keep working everyday with my crew. I'm so excited. I do have a question about the show in New York, first are you going and are you showing. Also where is a good place to stay. I want to go to watch.

I know that I did alot of traveling, fetching and talking to many handlers, breeders, etc. Even attending a National (at the advice of my mentor) without a dog, didn't even own one yet. We sat in the balconey of the grand ballroom at the NYer through the whole show........every dog that was shown, she went over with her eyes and shared with me what she was seeing. Nothing like the knowledge of 40 years of experience and over a 100 Champions. What she has passed on to me are invaluable lessons.......but, as she said to me, you'll never really understand it until you get in the ring.......of course she wouldn't allow me into to the ring until she felt I was ready....The greatest compliment she paid me was asking me to handle her dogs.

I can't wait to see you at the shows!! I'm glad you are taking this serious!! I'm happy for you! I am going to NY and will be showing Radar and possibly a puppy bitch in sweeps and at the YTCA National for a client. We all stay at the New Yorker Hotel! That is where you should stay! Go to the YTCA.org website and it should be posted I think or you can go to the Westminster Kennel Club website and get hotel information there You will LOVE IT! I hope you get to come!!! AWESOME!! | OH I didn't know it was booked already! Yes, there are other hotels. The Penn is close by and right across the street from the Garden...The Wesminster Kennel Club has a lot of hotel listings |

| The NYer is just so convenient when showing. And heaven forbid another blizzard hits like it did that one year......I know Kara didn't end up showing that day because she couldn't get to the NYer....

I always make my hotel reservations in June or July for NY and my airfare either in August and sometimes before...this year I didn't book my flight until early October because of the airfare being so high!

| She looks like she has a very nice coat. Her tail also when up looks to be gay, which will help hide the low tail set. My concern for down the road would be would she throw low tail set if you choose to breed her. I do think if her gait is correct and if she has nice movement she could finish easily enough. |

| I know the Hotel Penn is close. Anything that is around 34th St and 8th is close. 42nd street is close. The NY'er is on the corner of 34th and 8th. Times Square is a few blocks from the hotel. I know there is another hotel close by the Penn but I don't know the name of it. |

Usually don't make flight reservations until Ken says it's a go, he sits at the computer daily watching the rates....Usually in January but 21 days in advance...... I remember that (blizzard) snow storm, it was so beautiful, standing outside inbetween Sweeps and Regular classes....so pretty...it felt great, because the hotel was so hot. That was the year everyone got so sick.......
