It says it right before you fill it out. The two that we don't meet are that they do not adopt to families with kids under 10, my youngest is 7 and all other animals must be fixed in the home. First of all, I have a cop dog that we don't have the choice to get fixed. I went through this with a cat rescue org here and ended up telling them off. There has to be exceptions to the rules.. but they wouldn't budge, service dog or not, he must be fixed... so I ended up getting a farm cat for free!

That's the same problem I have with rescues. I would rather adopt a non-puppy from a rescue, but haven't come accross one yet that will adopt any small breed, even the 15-20lb ones, to a family with kids. I guess I am just limited to breeders, or keep checking for strays at the shelter.

I think it is silly. I think that each should be on the individual. I do agree that there are homes that I wouldn't place a puppy/dog in because of the small children. I just had two families take two of Zoe's puppies both had small children and I personally don't think I could have made a better match!

I have my own small dogs, one is about to be neutered. The other two are not because they breed. Zeus can't be fixed due to being a police dog. I could be the perfect parent to a rescue but because I have a 7 year old and dogs that aren't fixed..... its unfortunate.

Those policies aren't limited to rescue organizations...our spca has those policies...PLUS more strigent rules too.

I have to agree. I've seen some known Yorkie rescues charge this for an older Yorkie and for pups $750 or more. To me that is a lot, but I chalk it up and hope that the $$ is actually being used for the ones left behind. I don't find $500 to much for a pup. You have to consider if you were buying one you would pay at least that plus the vetting and neutering/spaying of the pup. In NJ the cost to neuter or spay is around $300 -$350 the vet visit itself around $55 and then the shots. I got my Lilly at 13 weeks old from a rescue and paid $400 for her which included everything. To me that was a steal. My concern for the little guy is that he ended up in the hands of a reputable rescue that will ensure he goes to the home he deserves. Elaine

Unfortunately, this rescue group is incorrect in the statement they make on Skippy's webpage that he's a "live Biewer! The first ever in rescue! WOW!". I adopted my biewer, Jordy, from OKYorkieRescue.org in November. His brother was also rescued and adopted at that time. From other threads here on YT, I've learned biewers are becoming more widely available at auctions for the puppy millers. Unfortunately, as this breed becomes more popular, we'll see more & more of them turning up in mills and rescues

As usuall we could beat this "dead horse" of how and why this adorable pup ended up there,what's important is that he find a loving forever home. I filled out an application and hope to hear from them. The fee is nothing. Getting a dog all up to date on shots,potty trained,and neutered, it's worth it. Wish him good luck!!!

I thought it was important that they did note this on their website:
WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally range from $250-$450 depending on the health, age and size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after.
Why does SAVE A YORKIE RESCUE charge the amount above for a rescued dog?

THE AVERAGE COST FOR EACH YORKIE BEFORE IT GOES TO IT'S NEW FOREVER HOME IS OVER $600.00

This includes (if needed) but is not limited to:

Transportation, Complete Vet Check, bring up to date on shots (most dogs have little to no shots when brought in), fecal check, heartworm check, lyme disease check, food, spay/neuter, teeth check up and cleaning, treatment for mange, grooming, treatment for ear mites...some dogs require even more.

We charge a higher fee for the younger healthier dogs to help off-set the cost involved with the older dogs that come into the rescue.

I would love to adopt him. I just don't have the $500.00. I have been patiently searching for a Yorkie to adopt. I have my Schnoodle and my husband will let me get a Yorkie, however not at that cost. I meet the requirements, being a grandma with no kids here and the grand babies in VA. I have been searching since September of last year. Every time there is a Yorkie at a reasonable adoption cost it is snapped up before I get a chance. The rest are asking for more than I have. I don't think the fee is outrageous, just more than I have.

I love the new picture! He is beautiful! I noticed they lowered the price to $450. I'm really surprised someone hasn't scooped him up! I'd take him in a quick second!

I thought it was $450 in the beginning. I do remember, for some reason, he wasn't available for adoption til Mar21 or 23??

Oops, guess I just read the comments about $500. I have a horrible memory so don't go off my comment.

I only wish we could pass all requirements! He is so cute! I'm sure he will get a great home soon enough.

I have been playing phone tag with the foster mom. She must work nights. We are on opposite schedules. She did leave me a message about him having people come and look. I left a message that I can drive out there,but if he's adopted to call me first. No responce...I'm going to call her again....

Trying to get a date set up to go see him.
