| Some states trying to shut down Rescues It is really sad that most states will not do much about puppy mills but are trying to shut down some of the rescue organizations. I foster rescues for an organization in Iowa. They are giveing her a bad time, trying to say she needs a breeders or dealers liense. Which she is neither. I think some of the humane societies do not like the rescue organizations because they treat the dogs better and do everything they can to save the animal and find a good home. |

| I can't believe such a thing. What is happening in the country is just plain crazy! Sure let the pet stores, puppy mills and BYB continue to produce sick, abused puppies but close down a resuce who tries to help them is just plain nuts. Sounds like money is involved somehow. Maybe our wonderful government is just not getting their cut. |

| My rescue (well not MINE but the one I work with) has to have a Dept. of Agriculture Kennel license. Kennel does not = breeder, though it is the same one breeders have to get. It not a really big deal, they just have to keep updated paperwork filed with the state and allow an inspection if the inspector comes. There are several "rescues" that have ended up being more like hoarders and its just the gov'ts way of making sure things stay under control and sanitary

| There are lots of "rescues" that start out with the intention of helping, but get so overwhelmed it ends up hurting the animals.

| rescue Yes--it is Fluffybutts. Chris is so good with the dogs she gets from the puppymills. I was really surprised when I was told they were giving her a hard time. She will take any type dog to get a good home rather to be put down by some humane society. |

| I am a little confused..is it the animal control or the state run organizations which is different than the Humane Society that is asking that they be licensed? The Humane Society is a not for profit private organization and does not issue any legal citations. While they do euthanize animals they are not like the state run shelters that has laws on the books on how long an animal can stay in the shelter which is usually a very short time. In Arizona, for our rescues we had to license them so animal control knew where all the dogs were. This is a state law because of rabies. It also was a way for the government agencies (animal welfare) to make sure the rescue's were on the up and up. There have been situations where people were just making more $$$ off of these poor animals. I know any reputable small rescue struggles to make ends meet so I feel for them. Please just clarify if is the state government agencies and not the Humane Society. Two different things.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | I really find this hard to believe. Why would they try to shut down rescues when there is such a great need for them? How sad.

| I wondered if it was Fluffybutts. I sometimes visit their site & have bought somethings off ebay to support them. I hope she is following any & all state laws. I can tell there is love & care there. Let me know if there is someone to contact in the state.

| I know that rescues struggle, and that many are doing a great thing. But some do get overwhelmed. We had one here that was shut down earlier this year. I didn't know the woman who ran it personally, but knew others who did. They believed she had the best intentions. However, when the state went into inspect, she had way too many animals living in bad conditions. Just too many to care for. Good intentions gone wrong. I believe the law in PA is that rescues need a kennel license as well. I haven't researched that myself, so could be wrong about that, however. I hope that the rescue you are referring to is able to get whatever licensing is required to remain open. Good luck to you and the rescue that you help out! Let me just add, I've always respected Livingdustmop's opinions/thoughts when it comes to rescue. She knows her stuff.

I have also bought things from Fluffybutts rescue to help them and to purchase things I need. I hope they can raise the funds to stay in operation as I think this is the problem here as I suspect they don't have the funds to get the license or it is upsetting to them that they have to spend their funds this way and not on the dogs. I also agree sometimes rescues do get overwhelmed as they know in many cases they are the last stop and if they say no, they know the dog will be put down. This is an awful thing for anyone in rescue to have to do.
