| Dosage: Childrens Benadryl The vet prescribed children's liquid benadryl for Chai and she said to give her 1 ml for every 1 lb so we are giving her a little over 2 mls three times a day. That seems like a lot to me because the botle says a 6 yr old chld shold get 1 teaspoon! The size difference between my 2 lb yorkie and a six year old human is huge and I was wondering if there is any risk to giving her too much if we are wrong. Also, she really HATES it and it's so hard to get it in her with the syringe! It's amazing how strong she is and how she squirms to make it impossible. It gets all over everything and that's with three people working together! Does anyone have tips for something to put it in or how to administer it or if there is a flavor they like. We have grape. Has anyone tried the pills? The vet felt it would be hard to get the right dosage with pills because it would be hard to break them up properly. Anyone? |

| I don't know for sure if there is a risk with giving her too much, I would think three would be though. However I have a big dog who we believe got bit by something and the vet said to give him benedryl and we were surprised how much he told us to give him, he is quite a bit bigger than a yorkie but we were still surprised at how much he got. Maybe a dog can consume more than humans, but I don't know.

| I always have a rule of using common sense.. If you feel (by heart) that you are giving her too much just lower it a little. Also before trying to put the medicine in her mouth show her a treat, put her in your lap facing you and grab her chins hair just a little hard she will not like it at first but she will stay still for the 2 seconds your are going to give her the medicine (my vet told me this trick, believe me you wont hurt her, they are stronger than they want us to know!!!) try to go as deep as she will let you but only on the side of her mouth and VOILA!!! done. I do it all the time with Violets vitamins (they are oily). |

| good luck , I know when I had to give Rudy liquid meds it was like wrestling a 500lb bear. I had to change the meds to pills and that is easy with him, just wrap it with cheese. If you find away, please let us know.

| Thanks for the great advice as always...you are all amazing! I will try what you suggested...the chin hairs, giving a little less (gut feeling basically) and pills instead! Thanks so much! |

| I hope everything works out with you giving the meds. I was wondering why your vet prescribed children's benadryl? Reagan |

| Lexie has been sick for weeks and I have had to administer a prescription in liquid form. She tries to get away and runs from me when she sees the syringe. I have found that placing her in the sink works best...she can't get away from me and I am able to open her mouth and quickly squirt the meds in there. She hates it, but it works. Good luck!
