| Did you call the vet? Let us know what they said. I just found out yesterday that where I live the dog has to be at least 4 months before they get the rabies shot because they think earlier than that is not effective. My Chai had her rabies at 15 weeks with her breeder in Texas. My vet wants to give it to her again because she was a week shy of 4 months, but I am not going to allow it. That shot is just too strong and she will never be anywhere where she can get rabies! |

| My maltese had this reaction when she was 5 years old. Already having had her rabies before but for some reason she was allergic to it. She looked just as you are describing. I had to leave her at the vet for a day for observation. Took her home the next day and continued giving baby benedryl another time or two. She did not receive another rabies vaccine for the rest of her life. It is very scary!! But whatever they give to counteract works fairly quickly. I hope this makes you feel better that your baby will be ok and I hope he feels better soon. I called every hour when my baby was first brought back to the vet for this allergic reaction. The staff didn't seem to mind me calling at all, they know dogs are like children to their owners. Call them now and make yourself feel better. |

| My vet said too that they should not have there rabies before 4 months, I am actually going to wait until he gets neuterd at 8 months and I told the vet that, not going to take any chances!

| I really think he will be ok. The itching improvement is a good sign. Did they tell you how they are treating him? What meds? |

| Dont blame yourself for your vet's mistake!!! We all put our trust in our vet's because they are suppost to have our pet's best interest in mind, im not sure why he gave him the rabies so soon but defenetley talk to him about it when you go back in there, don't be so hard on yourself!!!

| I'm sure you are really scared! Almost 6 years ago, one of my pup had a reaction to the last set of shots too. He was red and hot and screamed when I touch him. I was scared out of my wits. Had to take him back to the vets as well for a corisone shot. He was up to his normal self the next day. My vet thinks he is allergic to the rabies shot. I think it is the Lepto. Either way, he has no Lepto is his vaccination but I have to give him his rabies which is required by law or else I would never give him a rabies shot again. But I make sure I let the vet know each time that he is allergic to his annual shot and to make sure he is given a corisone shot. Never had a reaction since then. I hope your pup will be okay. He seem to have had a very bad reaction. However, after they give him the corisone shot the swelling should start going down. I know the waiting is horrible but you should be able to call the vet in a couple of hours and find out how he is doing. Sorry, probably not much help ease your worry. But know that my pup have had an reaction too and came through it just fine. He is 6 year old now and a total sweatheart. BUT FOR NOW ON DON'T FORGET TO REMIND YOUR VET EACH TIME YOU GET HIS ANNUAL THAT HE HAS AN ALLERGIC REACTION BEFORE!! DON'T EXPECT THEM TO REMEMBER. HALF OF THE TIME THEY WON'T. |

| Personally I wouldn't neuter him until all his adult teeth are in. That way they can remove any baby teeth that don't come out on their own without giving him anesthesia twice. Make sure they use Isoflourine gas as his general anesthesia!! This is soooooo important. Other anesthetics can kill him! If they don't use Isofluorine, take him to another vet for his surgery. My ve doesn't use it and we are going to a different one for the surgery on Lexy when the time comes. |

| Change VETS... In a toy breed rabies is not suggested before 6-9 months, I recommend 6 months. I would Never allow a Rabies at the same time as the other shots, and this will often mean a battle with the vet. In many states the law states it must be done at 12 weeks, so the decision is between you and your vet. did your vet use a 5-1 booster puppy pac ??? make sure of that please I hope they didnt use LEPTO Far to many Vets are giving rabies too early (9 - 16 weeks) and it is causing severe immune problems in this puppies. The reaction mimics that of HOD symptoms. swollen achy joints high fever lethargy off feed crying in pain Many puppies are misdiagnosed as HOD puppies, when in fact they are having a vaccine responses. I hope this helps

| Was it a reaction to the rabies shot, it can't be the puppy booster as it's not his first puppy shot and he's never reacted to the others right? I didn't know a rabies shot causes those kind of symptoms. I pray your baby will be fine and back home soon. |
