| He'll be fine. There is no reason to cancel. His tummy could still be upset, so I wouldn't be too worried if he were to throw up once today. Some of the drug might have absorbed leading to the odd behavior. I wouldn't worry about it.

| I'm so glad that you were able to induce and recover the drug. When in doubt, call the ASPCA poison or go directly to an ER vet. Minutes can make the difference. I've also induced with that dosage of hydrogen peroxide but only at the direction of a vet or the ASPCA vet toxicologists. Other times I have had to bring my dog in to an ER vet for them to induce vomiting with apomorphine in the eyes. I also do not take any advice from the people answering the phone. I need a vet on the line or I don't take their advice. I hope Jackson and you have an uneventful day filled with all things happy and healthy!

I gave him only 1tsp of hydrogen peroxide... that wasn't too much, right? I miswrote it in my one post when I put tablespoon, lol. I would have been the 1st rushing to the ER if they had told me to... they did not seem overly concerned. She put me on hold both times to ask the vet but I agree, I would have felt more confident speaking to an actual vet. I have learned my lesson!! I will never give him any kind of drug without consulting a professional first! Whew! Hopefully we will do some swimming today (Jax's favorite thing in the world) and he will be back to normal in no time!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | The benadryl shouldn't really be a problem, but the Acetaminophen (aka Tylenol) can def be a problem, as it is toxic to a dog's liver. The small amount of Aceta may be okay, but def check w/ your vet. I hope he is okay! Do you think you have fire ants? Edited: so glad to hear he is on the mend !

Possibly... I've never seen fire ants. Maybe it was a spider? You think? I've seen lots of bees who chill in the grass and the ground, maybe one was buried in the sand? I am not entirely sure. But before giving the Benadryl, I had looked all into his foot, there was nothing stuck in it that I could see, and I put it right under the light. My stepdad and mother also looked. So I quickly assumed it was a sting with the way he was acting.

Brit, I'm so sorry, I'm just now seeing this... I believe Acetaminophen is more toxic when given consecutively, like for 3 days or more, unless overdosed. I don't think one dose will cause any permanent harm. As for the Pseudoephedrine, a vet had told me to give 1/2 tab to my dog at one time... that is the 'old' Sudafed. Phenylephrine HCl is the 'new' Sudafed PE and I don't know anything about it. How is Jackson doing now? Is his foot swollen or bothering him?

With the amount of time you guys spend outside, it wouldn't hurt to get a bottle of plain Benedryl to carry with you, in case of a bee sting or spider bite. It can buy some time on the way to the vet. You could ask your vet about the correct dose for Jackson, and see if she thinks this would be appropriate to do for him, (before it happens again). Also, if this is the first time he was stung/bitten, be extra careful as an allergic reaction is more likely to occur with a second sting/bite. Many people think, 'Oh, well he was fine the last time he was stung, so he'll be fine this time too.' This is not necessarily so.

| 1 tsp. was not too much. That dose is so small that it may not work for all dogs. I concur with the above. Get some "plain" Benadryl on hand. Talk to his vet about what the dose should be for him, and always keep it with you're going to be playing outside. What could be something that requires a dose of Benadryl can turn into something that requires an ER visit. Better to have it and avoid the headache.

Sometimes a shot of epinephrine is needed in addition to the initial dose of Benedryl... depending on the toxicity and amount of venom in the sting or bite and how bad the reaction one's dog may have. So even after dosing with Benedryl, it would be worth having a vet check him out to be sure it was sufficient to stop any reaction. (Too late to do in this case, but for future episodes)

| I think that depends on the extent of what is going on and the risk level that each person is comfortable with. Facial swelling, get to the ER NOW. Some pain from a sting, well, I'm not spending $80 on it, but that is my comfort level. They will give steroids for reactions, but if there is no swelling, they may not. I'd never tell somebody not to go, but unless there is swelling, I probably wouldn't.
