| ![]() I'd like to ask -in checking for the thyroid problem- did your baby have to fast before the blood draw? I'm probably going to have to have Neo's thyroid checked in the near future. |

| ![]() Darwin kinda smells like corn chips, but you can't smell it unless I pretty much slobber him with kisses for awhile..I like that smell! He did have very bad smelling tears when we first took him home from the breeders, but soon as we switched dog food and I bathed him in baby shampoo once a week he is doing great! No more tears.. and he smells like a baby who sometimes munches on corn chips!

| ![]() Sounds like yeast or a thyroid problem. My Lulu has suffered for years with yeast problems. There is a great product called Nzymes that has helped with the yeast. Many who use it get results in a few months. Lulu took a few years. The mistake I made was to stop giving it to her once I saw improvement. Now the yeast and the corn chip smell is back with a vengence, along with constant biting and scratching. I suggest looking at the Nzymes website, there is a ton of information there. Also put in a phone call to them. They are very very helpful and knowledgeable.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() There are some articles out there that say the corn chip smell (when more pervasive than the feet) can def indicate yeast. Can't hurt to do a skin scrape - they're very easy for the vet to do.

| ![]() A skin test will definitely show if there is yeast or not. Be cautious if the vet recommends antibiotics to clear it up. Antibiotics will only cause the problem to get worse. You need to restore good bacteria in your baby's gut and antibiotics actually destroy the good bacteria. I suffer from yeast, my dog does as well, and I know for a fact that it is very hard to get rid of. You must follow a very strict diet and stay away from foods that promote yeast growth. The problem is that most vets don't know how to treat it effectively. I suggest doing a google search and reading up on it. I know from experience that before I was educated on yeast, I gave my Lulu the antibiotics that the vet perscribed. She got very very ill and I only noticed improvement once I started researching and treating it myself. Best of luck.

| ![]() Yes, she did fast. You should make sure that they do a comprehensive thyroid test. Check for everything: T4, total T3, free T4, free T3, T3AA and T4AA, cTSH and/or TgAA. I would call ahead and make sure the vet you are going to will test for all of these things. Most only check for T4 and T3 which is not always comprehensive enough to find a problem.

If a thyroid problem was detected with only checking the T4 and T3, then that's great. Sometimes it takes more comprehensive testing to see a problem. Did the synthroid help? Don't know why he didn't make her fast.

| ![]() Yes the synthroid helped a 100%. The synthroid replaces the hormones that her thyroid was nolonger giving her and that why she was smelly and scratches, dry skin...I also used oatmeal shampoo and conditioner on her...with in 6 weeks she was back to her normal no smell and not itchy at all..She did have to take the synthroid daily for the rest of her life tho.
