| She has a very soft trachia and when she gets that excited, it doesn't matter if she's wearing a no choke, or step in harness, she isn't getting enough air into her lungs as she should. Maybe when she pulls, just stop till she quits. Try to keep her as calm as you can. I know that isn't easy when they are out walking.

| Even though we all wish they didn't cough while pulling on the leash, I am relieved to know that Fancy is not the only one. I was thinking it had something to do with pressure on the chest. Fancy gets so excited she will be walking on her hind legs pullings. I try to correct her but I guess we need alot more work. I usually wind up carrying her if we go somewhere where there are people walking since she is so small.

| I had the same problem with Max. I found a harness that sits low enough that it does not affect his trachea. It sits very low so that even if he pulls, it doesn't bother him. Ultra Easy ChokeFree & PawRider Pet Seatbelt Adapter (USA)

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm wondering if the coughing could be related to him trying to get you to do something, like give him more leash? One time I was cutting the hair on Joey's paw, and a few hairs fell in his face and he sneezed. Now, as soon as I lie him on his back he'll do the sneeze routine, I don't even have to cut the hair just have the scissors. I think it's his way of trying to make me stop. These little guys are so smart, and can learn something so fast, if it gets them something, you might want to think about that. Couldn't tell from the picture, but I know Joey's buddy belt lies low enough down so I wouldn't think it would be that, but if he has worn a different type of collar in the past, and the coughing worked for him, he could use the coughing again to get what he wants.

| Sounds like if the harness sits higher than the buddy belt, it's putting pressure around the ribcage and not the diaphragm. Maybe that's the cause of the coughing, not being too close to the neck necessarily but putting too much pressure on the diaphragm.

I know this photo looks ridiculous but I edited it to outline where the Buddy Belt sits. I can try to take another photo after he wakes up from his nap.

| The diaphragm would be much lower than where the BB is placed.

| well, then that's not the problem. I'm curious as well because sometimes mine cough and and their harness is no where near their throat... AllDogBoots, I thought you had said that the easy walk set higher than the BB, the diaphragm is right at the bottom of the ribcage (I think) and so I thought maybe that was the issue... evidently not

| Oh, I see. I have the Easy Walk, but Max has never worn it. I used it for Cooper who pulls, but he was able to escape out of it.

| I just received and used the easy walk harness today for the first time because Teddy pulls a lot with the choke free harness (the one with the paw print on the sides). He was coughing today when he pulled too much, which is the same problem other people seem to be having as well. I read the product description and it states that it doesn't make dogs cough, choke or gag, so what's up with that? |

| Jackson has done this occasionally. There was one time he was in a step-in harness and saw a rabbit or something and started pulling and he gagged a few times! I don't seem to have the issue with Puppia, like some people do. He doesn't really pull a ton so I couldn't really say one way or the other how often it would happen... but I find that his neck area is pretty sensitive, even for being a big boy like Max and Coop. So I don't really have any answers for you. I really want to try out the Buddy Belt because I think it looks so nice but I tried the Choke Free (which seems *very* similar) and I returned it because I didn't really like the way it fit him... it seemed uncomfortable and when he laid down, it seemed even tighter, and I don't know, sometimes I leave his harness on. BUT, the Choke Free was basically a one size deal, where I know the BB you can adjust it. Puppia is the only one I've tried that seems comfortable to him, and I'm cautious to spend the big bucks on a BB since he has like an 18" girth, LOL! How do you like yours?
