The difference is that Ann understand and give correct information. Like I didn't see your wise cracks about rescue. It is evident that you have an issue with me and my involvement with rescue. Your only experiences are with YOUR dogs. They are not all dogs. What works for you does not mean that is the advice that supersede a vet~a medical professional. It is just outright dangerous. Please do not compare yourself to Ann.

So if more than one type of bacteria is present, how would you know which is from the bladder when the lower urinary tract now has to be taken into account... And there are limits that labs set for acceptable bacteria levels depending on collection method. It complicates matters b/c there is no way to know how much bacteria come from the bladder.

| I'm not trying to beat you or anyone else into "submission" I was trying to explain to you that you are not doing something sterile. Do you know what sterile technique is and how to apply it to a specimen collection?

I guess you can be the purists and i will stick to my approach as has worked for 6 years for us and only one uti in 6 years when dd was a pup so i guess we are doing ok but i always appreciate hearing both sides in an intelligent non attacking way so thanks Crystal and Kellie for doing so.

| yep you have made it loud and clear. I think it is sometimes the way you say things Jodi and maybe that is the way it is coming across to others. Maybe it is not your intentions and maybe your intentions are good but sometimes your approach is harsh. Just because people are not in the medical profession does not mean we are idiots and at least we are trying to understand to take better care of our pets so they do not end up in your rescue. If there is an infection yes there will be a lot of bacteria. the problem is determining which bacteria came from where. what if the bacterias found need different antibiotics to clear it up? are you going to put your dog on multiple antibiotics that aren't necessary when you could just get a sterile sample straight from the bladder to determine what bacteria is in there and what antibiotic is then needed? Of course your samples are going to be excellent if there is nothing wrong with the dog (meaning the dog doesn't have an infection).

Why should I tell you the reason for a cysto? You know the reason and you also know that the majority of vets do them. Once you get something in your head, that is it. No matter what anyone says. The use of Metacam is one example. It is not the topic of this thread but the way you carry on about that med just amazes me. Seriously. Every single medication has side effects...that is not something we can avoid. They don't put a needle in human bladders because humans can follow directions on how to pee in a cup keeping the specimen sterile. I see NO WAY possible for anyone to do a free catch on a dog. I don't see anyone convincing you of anything. You say that these two vets advise you against cystos....what I want to know is WHY do they say NOT to do them?? OR...are they simply saying it is ok not to do them? There is a difference. As for someone proving something to you.....I don't see it happening unless you want to believe it. I also want to add that telling people to not listen to their vets is really not appropriate in my world. I would not want the responsibility if something happened to someone's pet because I advised them not to listen to their vet. I would feel awful....does not matter that you put that line in your signature line about not being a vet...that does not make it ok to give vet advice imho.

How many dogs have you diagnosed lately with GME? Have there been others that did not have it?

yep LJ these two professionals do not think it is necessary so why is that so hard to believe? I just posted what jean just said from her email in her own writing. Trust me I have seen pets you have helped and it did not turn out so well. But at least we try to help them get to the right place which is more than some. Nope you are never going to convince me as i have a brain and use it so if it does not make sense like using nsaids on liver dogs as Crystal knows it is not safe as well and i posted the FDA on it as well which says it is not safe. And since we are all here What ever did happen to Truman's medical bills did you bump the posts enough jodi to raise the funds? Since we are going to talk about Metacam we might as well bring up everything that goes on here

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | this is just getting ridiculous. Deb, no one is telling you to change your ways. you are free to do what you want with your pets and to listen to your vets and specialists. that is fine and great that you are listening to your vets who give you information about your dogs. i think this all boils down to you telling people to not do something just because you or your vet don't do it or agree with it. Cystos are done by many vets to get sterile accurate urine samples. metacam is given to many dogs and they have no side effects (with or without food, before feeding, while feeding or after feeding, with a snack or with a meal). Rimadyl is also given to many dogs without causing side effects. Distemper combo vaccines are given instead of 3-4 individual ones and no reactions occur. Things can happen and there are always risks in medicine whether its for people or animals. Researching and learning about what is best for your pet is excellent. Hearing both sides to an discussion is very valuable because it allows people to make their own decision and then discuss with their vets. however telling people to disregard things or not do them, even if their vet tells them to is just plain wrong. if a person has a question or concern about something their vet told them or something their vet prescribed then they should ask the vet, or get a second opinion from another vet.

why don't you join the group doghealth2 and tell those owners this that had dogs die from this stuff? and if we do not inform them like i do to ask questions and know better what can happen then that is just wrong too People come here to learn as they have a vet and come to ask questions if they do not want to know our opinions then don't ask tell that to brandi's mom whose dog died of a dhpp vaccine Last edited by dwerten; 05-30-2010 at 10:03 PM.
