| Royal Canin is "changing" their formula.... I just got a notice today that Royal Canin is changing their Yorkshire 28 and their Chihuahua 28 formulas. Evidentl there will be new bags so the new formula is a little more noticable to those "in the know" that might be looking OUT for them. What they are doing is they are going from "chicken" to "chicken meal". What it does is that it SIGNIFIGANTLY "INCREASES" the Protein from (for eg.) 15g in 100g for formula to 65g in 100 g and that folks....is HUGE! Sounds all great and all of that but after my own personal experience with Dog Foods and dogs DYING from to concentrated protein type dog foods (Canidae)......this notice to their changes is just scaring the hell (sorry) out of me. Please people.....be aware that sometimes people mean well with trying to make the "BEST" dog food or whatever that they can and sometimes it backfires. Again, my belief is that TO MUCH of a good thing isn't always really a good thing. Canidae is chicken meal like Royal Canin will be from now on and the Canidae........my dogs system just couldn't handle all that high concentrate of dog food. I'm a HUGE Royal Canin fan and have been for many years but NOW......I may have to go another route (IAMS for eg.) or start cooking 100% of the time for my dogs. I only cook a couple of times a week (chicken & rice for eg.) currently. Anyway........just be aware of this and if you do go to the "new formula", make DARN SURE you switch over SUPER SLOWLY. It's "wicked" stuff! PR |

| Hmmmm. I was recently in Tractor Supply, where I used to buy this when I fed it. I noticed their shelves were almost empty of RC for Yorkies. This explains it why. I was wondering about that. |

| I was informed via e-mail this morning. I belong to their breeder partnership program, but am wondering what is behind these changes. Higher protien has me a bit worried and of course the change to wheat glueten.

| Thank-you for the notice. I have our Yorkie on RC Puppy as of now. The glueten thing has had me worried. However; now I plan on changing to Wellness. I have had the Wellness bag bought but was still in question wheather to change or not. I now plan on changing.

I've noticed that everytime you turn around they are uping their prices....so, I'm wondering if that is the reason behind their changes. They had high quality ingredients....now they are changing to what every other dog food has....why pay the high prices if they are no longer making quality food.

| hmm... is is just those 2 kinds that are being changed? My Ginger is on the LS 14 (prescription) and I am not a fan of all the ingredients but its worked the best for us so far since we are pretty limited with her diet so I am sticking to it for now. Its made her skin pretty dry and somewhat flaky though.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Sorry to hear this, Joey's doing so well on RC, and when we've tried to switch to other foods, he's experienced problems. However, I thought they had been using chicken meal for several years, so I'm confused. Looking forward to what they tell you.

My concern is the Protien levels are being increased, will this affect their digestion and of course their annual blood tests. And then the wheat gluten added. We all had a scare a couple of years ago with this, so many brands were on the recall list and dogs were dying. My question will be where will the wheat gluten be obtained from, China?

| A person can only take an "educated guess" as to why the change and we all know why that would be (<~$$$)! What they said in their email was that it was to "enhance" the Yorkie and Chihuahua 28. They claim chicken meal (the new stuff they are adding) is "simply chicken without the fat and water content) [end quotre]. They also said that their chicken meal does not include chicken by-product sources. I can only say that these smaller dogs seems to have such delicate systems and I'm not sure if they can take such extremely high levels or protein. Anyway, they won't listen to us I'm sure but it's well worth some phone calls. I did write back to the addy in which the notice came to me from but the more people that call and also express concerns.....should help. There's got to be more to the story, the bags I have been buying have said "chicken meal" for over a year. Also, just because they have changed to chicken meal, it does not necessary mean that the protein will be higher; they may have changed the proportion of other things. Has RC sent you the email, and if so could you post it here? I also wonder if they are changing their European formula, because I believe someone in the past year said that it still contained chicken, not chicken meal.

| Copy of my notice from Royal Canin*Nancy* NOTE: I appologize to everyone that I couldn't get the very top line copied then pasted here from that email. The only thing missing that I'm aware of is the header and I assume maybe it's copywritten or something so it can't be copied off. Truth is that I'm not very computer smart either and that can be the problem. But I did manage to get the "meat" of the post. Peggy Royal Canin USA Upgrades PRO Canine Small Breed Formulas Royal Canin has made a few changes to three of the canine small breed formulas. You have not seen any of these changes on your current food, but you will soon be seeing these changes as noted on stickers placed on bags delivered to your door in the near future. Recent scientific advances have allowed us to enhance these formulas to the better benefit of the breed and we want to take this opportunity to share these advancements with our partners. Royal Canin has removed chicken from the ingredients of Chihuahua 28™ and Yorkshire Terrier 28™, and replaced it with chicken meal. What is chicken meal? Chicken meal is simply chicken without the fat and water content. Chicken meal does not include chicken by-product sources. As you can see by the example below, chicken meal is just a more concentrated source of chicken protein. Ingredient % protein this ingredient contains: If this amount of the ingredient were added to formula… ...then this would be the amount of protein provided to the formula Chicken (contains approx. 65% moisture) 15% 100g 15g Chicken Meal (contains 10% moisture) 65% 100g 65g Following are additional changes made to each individual product: Chihuahua 28™ Chicken Meal We have replaced chicken with chicken meal as a highly digestible protein source. Borage Oil We have removed borage oil from Chihuahua 28. We have optimized the fatty acid spectrum with the use of other essential oils. Vitamin A Vitamin A is important to protect the skin barrier. We have increased the level of Vitamin A for healthy skin. Dachshund 28™ Glucosamine and Chondroitin We have increased glucosamine and chondroitin to 700 mg/kg combined to support the Dachshund's skeleton and joints. Borage Oil We have removed borage oil from Dachshund 28™. We have optimized the fatty acid spectrum with the use of other essential oils. Vitamin A Vitamin A is important to protect the skin barrier. We have increased the level of Vitamin A for healthy skin. Yorkshire Terrier 28™ Chicken Meal We have replaced chicken with chicken meal as a highly digestible protein source. Salmon Meal We have removed salmon meal from Yorkshire Terrier 28™ and optimized the amino acid spectrum with other ingredients. Wheat Gluten Meal We have added wheat gluten meal, which is 99% digestible, as a protein source. Vitamin A Vitamin A is important to protect the skin barrier. We have increased the level of Vitamin A for healthy skin. Please feel free to contact our Consumer Assistance professionals at 1.800.592.6687 with any additional questions or concerns.
