| Our Dr. Lucy won't let us use flea shampoos, etc. on Toto either! When she was really tiny [puppy] we had to only put half a tube of the Advantage on her ... now she gets a whole one. We can use it as often as every two weeks because I bathe her so much. It works well for her ... but we seldom let her on the ground and she usually only gets a flea from my son's Border Collie! Missy is an inside dog but also gets to potty and play outside ... she hates Toto but is always glad to share a flea with her! I swear she smiles!!

Okay, this is what my vet said about sentinal, she told me that sentinal is really not a good heart worm preventative. She said that sentinal should be used with heart worm medicine, eventhough, it says it is for heart worms amongst other things. We are still going to try it for a couple of months to see if it is a better flea control over the spot medicines. I want to thank everyone for all of thier information on this! Thank-you! This is in response to orinskye and lucynfred latest email about buying prescription medications online. I have bought prescription pet meds online before. I took the meds into my vet at a vet visit because I wanted to make sure all the dosages were appropriate for Tinkie's size and age. My vet "GASPED" she said that I should NEVER buy prescription pet medication online and this is why: They take "out of date" medication and repackage it so the date looks fresh. She told me that this is very dangerous because sometimes the old medicine changes chemically to toxic when it is old. She also said that it is illegal to purchase prescription medication online without a prescription. I have since returned my order to the place I bought it online. I didn't use any of it. I thought maybe this would help anyone thinking about buying thier pet prescription medications online. Thanks again for your posts! Annie and Tinkie

| My vet told me that using the Frontline Flea protection is better for yorkies than the others because the others tend to wash off easier. She said that I'd need to use a specific shampoo with the others that doesn't wash off the solution. That is why I'm using the Frontline. Sentinel is actually the monthly heartworm medication that includes some flea protection. It stops the flea from producing eggs that will hatch; therefore, the adult fleas that are on your dog are not affected. In Louisiana, we have fleas the size of cows that can haul you off in a split-second. I'll have to see if the Frontline continues working once the heat is back. Lisa

| "In Louisiana, we have fleas the size of cows that can haul you off in a split-second." Lisa, having gotten "up front and personal" with those fleas last year, while living in Lake Charles, is one of the few reasons I don't mind freezing up here in Colorado!!! They were awful even with Toto not getting outside ... they jump on your shoes and hitch a ride to your pet!! And the thing that amazed me more were the mosquitos ... those things are like little "fighter jets"!! No doubt, we didn't spend much time outdoors down there!! However, on the upside ... that's where we found that wonderful trainer for Toto! He was like magic with her ... him, we miss!!

| They key to avoiding mosquitos is to be inside before dusk. Even in the winter, we have mosquitos. I just mentioned to my dh last night that we need to clean up the remaining leaves on the ground in our backyard since it seems it attracts the blood suckers!

| Fleas i don't know much about products that you would by from the vet but when i got nala she had fleas and the lady that we take a dogs to, to get groomed told me i could bathe her in joy dishwashing detergent. she said it would kill the fleas but it would make them jump off into the bath water and that would kill them also my uncle said his vet told him he could mix drift and water in a spray bottle and that would kill them. i haven't tried either one because she only had a couple and i got them off of her and the vet said there was no signs of them but its a thought beats chemicals |

Thanks so much! I have never bought meds online b/c we visit the vet so much, but I started considering it here recently since we've got a housefull. I will remember this and thanks to too whoever warned about the Sentinel not being a good heartworm med. I will talk to my doc on Monday and see if I can put them all on Heartgaurd again!!! I really wish they could get a pill that tasted good that took care of everthing!!!!

| I use frontline on my lil guys and never had a problem. But here is the catch, flea medicine doesn;t really stop fleas or ticks to "visit" our pets, it just stops them from biting and laying eggs. If they try to do so, they get infected with the medication and DIE hehehe... That is why it is also very important to vacumm contantly, and if possible, to always put the carpet in the sun. I am considering getting frontline spray next time, didn;t know you could use on the house, thought was only to use on the animal...but it might be good to use a flea shampoo for now?!? Also, be careful with shampoo you use, some will wash away the flea medication from the skin!! |

| yes thanks babygirlyorkie....... as soon as i saw that they were in fact a perscription medication, i left the site.... i wouldnt buy perscription things online (not even my perscription contacts...lol)...... i will ahve to look into sentinel when toby gets neutered (next week i hope) and see hwo much they cost at the low cost clinic........ but the base price i got off the site that was suggested was helpful in determining if the vet i am going to ask will rip me off or not, anything over $50 for a six month dosage is too much...... lol...... least i learned somehting off the med site |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | we use advantix on the pups our vet dont carry it no more cause people were saying it didnt work advantix works really well they had no more fleas by the next morning we have been having really bad flea problems around here the only problem with advantix is that you can have the dogs and cats go near each other at all for 12 hours it can be deadly so we put the pups to sleep in there cage and by the next morning it was ok |

| The shampoo that I am using on P.J. is called Ecto-Soothe 3X. The description on the bottle reads, "Kills ticks, fleas and lice. Emollient oatmeal pesticidal shampoo for use on dogs, cats, puppies and kittens." It also states "not to use on puppies under 12 weeks of age. Consult a veterinarian before treating debilitated, aged, medicated, pregnant or nursing animals." I used to work for a veterinarian and we had a lot of sucess with this product. My yorkie, P.J. is about 4 months of age and he only weighs 2 pounds. I was hesitant on putting any of the other products on him at this point. I have used this on him twice (use only once a week) and so far he doesn't have any more fleas on him. I hope that this has been some help to you. |
