| How many YTalkers brought a puppy to the groomer's?? I had to make an appointment with a groomer for Pepper already... He's 3.5 months old and the vet ok'd since his coat is so cottony it mats like crazy... I keep fighting with the mats since I got him but it got to the point the fight's not worth it... His fur got way out of control... I hope they won't trim him too much though and I know it'll grow back. Just wondered any of you had similar trouble and had to give a puppy a puppy cut? LOL

| Chachis puppy hair really matted and we got his hair cut for the first time when he was 4 months. His adult hair is so much nicer

| My 4 1/2 month old pup is starting to mat, also. I have been successful thus far in removing the knots; however, I am starting to think it is almost not worth putting my puppy through all that. Do any of you have pictures of their first cuts as puppies? What did you tell the groomer about how you wanted it cut? I am terrified to have all of his fluffy puppy mop cut off!!!! He is just a big messy furball (even right after he is combed out) and I love it . |

| Honestly, I have no clue what the groomer will do to him... The thing is his black coat doesn't really mat, I can easily comb through (with Cowboy Magic...), it's mostly where the hair is tan/lighter color. His poor legs and chest area are bad... I hope he'll stay fluffy but I don't want him to suffer . I'll post pix tomorrow afterwards. I was just looking at his first pictures from 6 weeks ago and it seems his hair grew at least an inch or so.

| I have had two Yorkies before and I plan to do the same with my current Yorkie, but they started going to the groomer's around 4 months and it's great because they got used to grooming from a very young age. Never fought me when I would comb their hair. Plus, I like to see them look neat and also helped with their ears standing up as well (I got the "Yorkie ears" which is when they cut down the hair on the ears). |

| I shaved my pup's ears with hubby's help, actually I was the one holding Pepper LOL... The left ear's standing up perfectly, right one is flat on the head. Just a question, do you think the groomer will try to remove the mats or just cut them off?? Especially on the legs it's bad ... And Cowboy Magic doesn't help very much...

sounds like you need a groomer's intervention. Not sure about all groomers, but mine did a very good job of getting out the mats which usually were around the legs and buttocks area. They actually combed them out with some type of special comb. If it got too out of control (and at times, it happens), then its time to cut the mat out. But you can talk to your groomer and see what they think is the best option. | |

| I guess I was lucky, when I got Nyx she had a few mats but her puppy coat was really silky, shiny and nice. I took her to the groomer's for the first time last month and the groomer did a great job absolutely no mats and her hair was so straight I was amazed. Her hair is still like that almost a month later and she loves getting brushed and combed now cause there's no mats that cause her pain.
