I have had two Yorkies before and I plan to do the same with my current Yorkie, but they started going to the groomer's around 4 months and it's great because they got used to grooming from a very young age. Never fought me when I would comb their hair. Plus, I like to see them look neat and also helped with their ears standing up as well (I got the "Yorkie ears" which is when they cut down the hair on the ears).
