| Brushing My yorkie is 8 months old and she hates to be brushed. I know I have to do it often so I do, but it is so difficult. I have 3 different types of brushes and when you start brushing her, even if you use the handle of the brush to touch her, she freaks out. Which makes it especially hard to brush her face. I get her groomed at least once a month somtimes 2, but I like to brush her everyday because she looks so nice. Any suggestions on how to make it a more pleasurable experience, for both of us? |

| might be the brush you are using. It might be hurting her by scraping her skin or pulling on the hair. If there are any tangles work from the ends toward the skin. when you got all the tangles out, keep brushing to soothe the skin. This will end in a more pleasant memory of brushing. talk gentle and try to make it a good experience. I don't think any of them really like the face brushed. LOL. all of mine love to be brushed but none of them like it on the face. could also be the groomer is being too rough and making it a bad experience for her.

| Mine hates me trimming her nails, sometimes she's ok and sometimes I can't go near them. What have found to be great is I get a greenie and put peanut butter on it and my husband holds it so she can lick the peanut butter off while I clip her nails. You could obviously use anything to put the peanut butter on or even something besides p-nut butter, I like it though because she just licks it so it takes her a bit to eat it all. It might be worth a shot at least until she gets a little better. Or get a special treat and give it to her when you are finished brushing her and only then, then she will know when you start brushing her afterwards she's going to get that something special, this may work also. Good luck

| Try brushing her for just a few minutes at a time and giving her a treat. Try to end the brushing sessions on a happy note and maybe play a favorite game afterwards. You must train them to "enjoy" brushing. |

| I had to stop using a brush altogether on Millie, she hated it and grooming was a horrible experience every day for me and her. I only us a dog comb now, and she is much better with it. Since I comb her everyday, she never gets mats or tangles so the comb works. (She has a cotton coat). |

| I too have a cotton coat, but I think its more cotton then most. Roxie is 1 1/2 year and she still hates being groomed. Because of her coat, I have to comb her everyday. You would think by now she would be use to it. I have an appointment on July 1st for a as low as you can go summer cut. I have been getting her cut every 2 months because for some strange reason her hair grows pretty fast. Once it starts getting around 3-4 inches long- I have to cut it. Its easier on her and I hate that she hates it so I feel I have no choice. She matts so easy.

| brushing Try using a finger nail brush. I use the finger nail brush first, than i use the doggy brush. I also use a tooth brush for the face area, But be careful around her eyes: Daisy is only 10 wks and Sissy is 8 mths and they are both doing good on the brushing now. GOOD LUCK.. |

| grooming My 5 month old Yorkie hates to be brushed.. she starts biting even if she see's me take the brush out! So, we have found a compermise that I put her harness on and hold the top of the harness with one hand while I comb her with my free hand. All the while she is chewing and biting the brush. Her face is the hardest part, she really doesnt like to be touched around her face at all. But it gets better each day - you have to try a little each day so the dog gets used to it little by little. Hope that helps... it is an uphill battle for sure....but the harness works wonders so she cant squirm away and she knows I am in control of her movement. |
