| ![]() What great videos, and what a well behaved yorkie! Thanks for sharing, I do some minor grooming on my baby Winston, but mostly he doesn't hold still enough for me to do all of his grooming, but it is so expensive to take him to a professional, so I am interested in learning more. Do you clip Layla's toe nails or file them? |

I file Layla's nails. She also hates that and will not stay still so I have cut her MANY times- now we file- and again- LOTS of treats.

| ![]() Wow, how on holy earth did you manage to get her to lie down like that? my benny has no problems with the trimming his front or back feet, butt, ears, you can do anything to him but I cannot imagine him lying on his side like that. But what the hey I'll give it a go next time but I doubt it, he won't even do that when I try to give him belly scratches. Btw I kinda don't get why we have to pluck those hairs inside the ears. It seems painful and I've been just using the trimmer to get those inside the ears so wouldn't that be ok? |

| ![]() Great videos, thanks for helping. I was wondering if you could give me some help on the bath part. I try to put cotton in the ears to keep water out and they always shake them out. I can't tell if I am getting water in the ears or not. Also I need some tips on cleaning the face without getting soap in the eyes. I use a tearless shampoo for the face but I am probably not getting the face clean enough for fear of getting too close to the eyes. Thanks!

![]() The hair in their ears can cause a few issues. The idea is that it keeps crap out, however, if there is too much hair- it can keep bad crap in. Also, it can keep the ear moist which can cause an ear infection. Plucking, while it seems like it might hurt, doensn't. Layla hardly flinches. Cutting is ok for a while, however, your dog will eventually get a build up of hair deeper in their ear.

To clean Layla's face- I usually just use a wet warm cloth and not usually shampoo. It is not worth it when I try and get the shampoo out and get up putting water up her nose ![]()

I agree marcella that a little bit of water doesn't hurt but since now that I have it down to a science and benny only shakes it out "after" Im finished with washing his head that it's not a big deal and I rather have his ears nice and dry. Give that a try.. Last edited by apple718; 12-10-2011 at 05:11 PM.

| ![]() Another thing I like to add on the shampooing head part is that right after you put in the cotton balls go at it right away and get the head wet. Then lather the shampoo in your hands to create suds then quickly wash the head/ears/chin/neck and rinse off quickly. Then if you have the conditioner on the body then rinse that off and by this time he can shake his head all he wants since you're done with it. So you see he couldn't shake his head while it's getting washed. It's like a sneak tactic but it works Yorkies hair is like ours so after a week or two it really needs a good shampoo and using a warm cloth is just not clean enough IMO.
