YT Addict | OHHHH NO! What has the hubby done! So I walk into our home yesterday to find my husband literally chopping away at our Pomeranian's back end. I know he's not a Yorkie, but if this had happened to TIkka I would have been even more furious as Pooter's lucky enough to be so fluffy that it gets masked a little bit, however still quite noticable on walks!!. Pooter has been sick all week, he has a weak stomach and must stay on ONLY acana food and water. No treats, no bones, no human food... ever. And a dog sitter broke all three of those rules over the weekend. So twice a day I have been cleaning very loose stool from the front door as he cant hold it... he's better now thank goodness! I just took him out. But my husband was sick of me having to bath Pooter twice a day due to the poop getting all over his rear and the carpet. SO he decided he would cut all of Pooter's bum hair off... and I walked in on it! So if any of you also own Pom's or similar and have any suggestions of things that help hair grow or what kind of full body cut to give him please please please help me lol. I'm going to take my HUSBAND's electric clippers and even it out, as I usually use the scissors to give Pooter trims on my own... but this is A LOT more than a trim on his rear. I am so mad at my husband, he doesn't know that Pom's hair can get ruined from close shaves, or that their hair can grow back more matted when shaved so low!

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Can you post a picture? I wouldn't shave or cut any of his body hair for reasons you mentioned. It takes for ever to grow back in all the way, and it might not grow back at all. The rear hair should grow back in fine but the body might not recover as well. The hair grows back all uneven because they have a double coat. If he didn't shave down his bum totally I would take a pair of scissors and just try to round it out.

| Oh no! Sometimes you just have to think to yourself...............what was he thinking! I noticed that you say they will mat when growing back in. Wouldn't keeping the hair well brushed and combed help with the matting when growing back? I just read Kalina82's post and had no idea it might not grow back properly is shaved. I was going to suggest the lion cut but not if it will forever ruin the coat.

YT Addict | Yeah here is a picture, it's the only one I could get! He just runs everytime I try to turn him around, he has issues with his rear end being touched it took me a LONG time when I got him to be able to cut out his mattes and keep him brushed, as he was a rescue. Its a lot worse than it looks in this pic... but I was also thinking about just trying to blend it more... round it out lol. My husband even cut the hair off his hing legs lol... poor guy.

YT Addict | I had another Pom that I kept cut in a lion cut, and I gave him to a family with 6 kids, as he was much better suited for them vs. me. They send me updates, and his undercoat didn`t grow back at all, he is now a flat coat pom! And yes, even with daily brushing mattes happen, I brush Pooter twice a day and still manage to find tangles now and again. For some reason shaving them down causing more mattes as the undercoat grows out... IF it grows. Not sure why

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I think I would just let it grow back in and not cut anymore. I had a fluffly pom and hair grows back pretty quickly.

What I would do it brush it out and then comb it straight out behind him. Then take scissors or thinners and trim it up all even and round it to neaten up the area. Then take Hubby's trimmers and run it over the back of his head when he is sleeping. hahaha

| Your story sure brought back a very pointed memory to me! The last time I visited Illinois (many years back) we walked in my sister's house to see her son cutting the hair from the rear end of their Pom. Theirs also had a very sensitive stomach. It seemed that was a particularly bad stomach week for the Pom and it had been my nephew's "turn" for keeping the Pom clean. He had enough so he practically shaved the baby's behind! I thought at the time it was pretty drastic action, but since then I've had my yorkies and I keep their little behinds shaved too!

YT Addict | Hahaha yes, my husbands intentions were definitely thoughtful as far as him thinking about all the work I've been doing between trying to keep up with Pooter being ill, and re-housetraining Tikka! But I told him, I really don't mind bathing Pooter twice a day when he's sick like that because he's my kid and it's just part of being his owner/mommy! I don't if he totally understood. But bless him for trying to make my life easier lol! Debra... that's so funny sounds a lot like what my husband was thinking!

| just neaten it up with shears, it will grow back fine. no need to clip all over. I have trimmed the pantaloons on many poms, and many lion clips, with no adverse affects to the hair growth. |

| We shave our pom all of the time. Sanitary cut is with a beard trimmer, and he gets brushed once a week, never has matted fur, and we thin him out considerably for the summer months here in Texas. I'd say get one of those furminator brushes and thin him/her out that way to kind of help mask the trim your hubby gave.
