We shave our pom all of the time. Sanitary cut is with a beard trimmer, and he gets brushed once a week, never has matted fur, and we thin him out considerably for the summer months here in Texas. I'd say get one of those furminator brushes and thin him/her out that way to kind of help mask the trim your hubby gave.
