Lately I have been slammed again with sick foster pups. Timmy just had surgery, Kandi is having surgery this Thursday and Tootsie is being evaluated for possible DI. So, in keeping with my history, I now have my own issues concurrent with my pups:

I have had anemia since last year and they were recently trying B-12 injections; but yesterday when I saw the oncologist/hematologist she expressed concern because my levels just are not improving. Not getting worse, but certainly not better. Everything is out of whack, red and white cells, platelets... UGH

So, they are scheduling me for a bone marrow biopsy. I asked her what her suspicion was and she mentioned MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome). This is what Robin Roberts recently was treated for and it looked pretty awful. I am trying really hard not to think about it and google it but I keep going back. I simply cannot do treatments that take me away from my pups for a month. Just would never work. I am begging for prayers...I don't know if I can pray not to have it...actually I know I cannot....but I need prayers please just to accept whatever is coming my way.

My brother told me last night he would come down if needed; but I really, really hate to inconvenience people with my pups.

OK...enough complaining. I am going to sit down now and pay bills. That should sidetrack me for a bit. hah

Linda, I am so very sorry that you are having these health problems. I will add you to my prayer list and ask God to grant you strength to face what He has in your future and to give you peace. I hope and pray that your medical team will find a quick and easy fix for your anemia.

Here is my "short lecture". If your brother offered to come, if you need help with the pups, let him come. I know the feeling, about not wanting to inconvenience anyone with your pups, but think of it as your duty to let others help you when you are in need. It'sa full circle - you help the pups in need, your brother help you with the pups when you are in need. You are so blessed having a sibling who is willing to do that for you. Look to a happy healthy future taking care of your beloved rescues.

Linda, I'm shocked to hear of this sudden blast of bad news for the pups and you! Just tell yourself that doctors have to anticipate and expect the worst even though they know many things could be causing your anemia and whacked out platelets, white cells. But they want to know from the beginning if it's something really bad so the doctor has to check that off first thing - at least the really good doctors do. I'm very glad you were under this doctor's care already so you were immediately set up for the bone marrow test whereas another doctor, say just a PCP, might just now be referring you to a hematologist/oncologist.

I agree you must let your brother or anyone who can help you as right now you have to think about your health and get this test done and then proceed to get your anemia treated. I will be praying like mad that your test is negative and your hematologist can find a treatment for your anemia and platelet and white cell count. I'm also praying those three dogs are going to be okay. You are going to be constantly on my mind and in my earnest prayers day and night. I know your faith in your Lord will see you through this test and finding out what's going on. He's our Rock and source of peace when things gets so scary in this life.

Lets hope for the best, but prepare for not so best. Take the help from your brother, he is offering because he loves you.

My dh has the bmt... stem cell transplant like Robin had. He is doing wonderful now, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

No, bone scan was not done; but I don't think there is a reason for one at this point.

And, not to confuse things, I have 3 family members who also have had B-12 anemia for over a year from different causes; one just had parathyroid removed, and the other 2 have colon issues, celiac and Crohn's.... just sayin' it could be something other than what they are initially looking at, so just start ruling out some of the potential possibilities.

I am hopeful that it is something else. I am having the bone marrow biopsy done on Thursday so at least I will soon have an answer.
