Bumping this thread since it is Breast Cancer Awareness month! It has been a scary year for me ... had to deal with a blood/possible leukemia type issue, hair loss and my teeth are a mess. I had medical insurance, but no dental and am scraping pennies together to pay for my dental work that is in the thousands. BUT, I am alive and kicking! I was a bit stupid and played Russian Roulette with my health.....and I suppose you could say I was lucky to have caught it when I did: BUT it could have been picked up so much sooner if I had just had my mammograms as I should have.

PLEASE LET THIS SERVE AS A REMINDER TO GET YOUR MAMMOGRAMS!!

If you don't have money for one, there are many places that offer them low cost and/or free. I believe all insurances cover them.

Also remember, you do not need a prescription for a screening mammogram if you are over 40.
My younger sister was diagnosed when she was 42, had a mastectomy and is fine today-18 yrs later.
Give yourself a gift and get a mammography.

Linda, you have sure gone through a lot, and I hope things get better. All that stress is so hard on your body, and I am praying for total wellness for you.

My mammogram scheduled for Oct 7. I'm pretty good about doing it annually since I have cysts, and have had 2 biopsy/lumpectomies in the past. I still worry about the things mammogram does not pick up (such as in Joan Lunden's case), but for now mammograms are the best detection method we have. I hope for even better technology in the future.

I'll be praying for you, Sandy. A screening mammogram caught my breast Ca, thank goodness. My 6 month post-lumpectomy mammogram and breast examination by the surgeon were both negative in early September! Yea!!!

Praying all goes well! Good for you for getting them done as you should!! Try not to worry...I know it is hard. Cases like hers are indeed scary.

Thanks for the prayers...I am ok...it's just more stuff. They say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger... I guess. LOL

Thanks Jeanie and Linda, and FYI I'm not at all worried. It is just a routine screening mammo that I do every year, and even the 2 times lumps were removed they were benign.

I am so happy for you, Linda. Every day is a blessing for us who have gone through such terrible times with cancer. It is all in the Lord's hands and He knows our days. I am on my knees every time I get a good report yet praying for those who do not get that. Celebrate your great health, Linda.

Linda, I am very happy you are doing well (other than having to put a fortune into dental work). I am in awe of your personal strength.

Thank you for sharing this very important message. My mother died at the age of 42 from breast cancer. She let life and fear get in the way of taking care of herself. No one should do that.

Linda, I am confident you will never slack in taking care of yourself, but if you do, I hope Cookie is there to tap her paw and give you a disapproving look.
