Default Texas breeders

Hi everyone! I have been lurking on the forum for a while and trying to read all that I can. I posted in the want section but thought maybe posting here would help.

I am looking for a female yorkie. I am in no hurry to get her but would like a healthy puppy. I am looking for one that is around 6lbs as I do have children and anything smaller would just be to small. We currently have a male yorkie, Taz who we just love. He is a 1 year old. I was lucky when we got him because I really did not know much about yorkies and now have read lots of heart ache that people have gone through.

So, if any of you have or will have a puppy for sale will you let me know? Or if you were very happy with the breeder that you got your puppy from please let me know. I have searched on here through old post and there seems to be several breeders that I should stay away from!

Thanks for any advise!
Theresa

Welcome! I did the same thing when my bf and I were looking for a puppy, and we actually found our breeder on this site. We ended up getting Ella from Kirista at Southeast Texas Yorkies (SET Yorkies). She's just outside of Beaumont, which is about 5 hours from us, but it was worth the drive. We couldn't be happier with Ella!

Default Hi

I just got my newest baby from Charlotte at Charming Yorkies, she is almost 5months old and we couldn't be happier. Here is the link to her website, she does have one girl available.
Nursery

Good luck in your search, there is nothing like a yorkie (or more) in your home!

We picked out our wonderful Graysee, who was originally named Annie, at Fancy Pups, owned by Jon and Jimmie Rascoe, who are former breeders, but now are simply brokers. The puppies we were shown were very healthy and happy, and we fell in love the first few minutes. The facilities were clean, in fact Annie and her sister Rosie were actually living inside the house, rather than in the kennels. The location is in Manvel, TX (quite a drive from THe Woodlands), and you can find them online at: Yorkshire Terriers Houston TX|Teacup Yorkies For Sale
Greysee is a pure delight, and is very healthy, with no problems except slight allergies to the pine pollen here in The Woodlands. Fancy Pups pricing is very competitve, although Graysee wasn't AKC registered, and we didn't require that, as she is simply a family house pet. She was registered with ACA, which many people turn up their noses at, but it's irrelevant to us!

Reputable breeders do not sell puppies at flea markets, expos or "shows"

"Simply brokers"! Think you need to do a little more searching this forum as to brokers. Again, certainly not reputable! JMO

I agree with the "brokers" comment. I had a lady in Petsmart give me their website when I was looking for my second yorkie. She said they were so nice, retired school teachers......The minute I logged on I could tell they were brokers. I did not see, at the very least, the dam on premises so I logged off. Who knows where they get the puppies from and their living condition before they were shipped off to be sold. These are not people who are concerned with improving the breed, they are people who are in it for the money.

I understand your trepidation; however, I visited the kennels, and they were very clean. There was another couple who came that day, and felt the same. Although this couple now just acts as brokers, that fact that the two Yorkies from whom our Graysee was chosen let the pups live in their home, along with their own dogs, rather than out in the kennels, let me feel safe that our purchase was from a reasonably "reputable" breeder. My uncle used to raise and show Cocker Spaniels, so I have some feel as to what might be a "puppy mill", and this certainly is not that! Anyway, Graysee is now fifteen months old, is healthy and well-trained, and a real joy to have. I'd go back there again for another, if we ever felt so inclined.

Do Not Buy from these people!!!! I bought my little girl from them 1 year ago and she spent the first weekend in the emergency hospital with coccidia, giardia, and worms. We have just recently returned from University of Tenneesee having her liver shunt surgically repaired where she was also diagnosed with Luxating Patella in both back legs. The sires and dams are not on the premises and there is no telling where these poor babies are coming from. We love our baby more than anything and will continue to take care of her, but please, please, please buy from a reputable breeder that has the mama on sight and offers more than a 48 hr guarantee! These people are simply brokers in it for the money.

Be very careful about purchase a dog for less than the "current" market value.
Ask yourself why? Ask them why? My suggestion to you is to do your research.

Find out all you can about the breed. Interview the breeder/sellers:
Ask to see the location of which your new pet living and sleeping quarters.
Get the history of the parents. If your pup is AKC, ask for AKC litter registration, As to get copies with the purchase of the dog. Thoroughly examine your pup on site.

Open the puppy’s mouth look inside. Look at his gums are they the proper color? Are the teeth in and clean? Free from parasites? Are the teeth formed correctly? Is the pup ears up? Is the hair removed in the inner ear? Stand the pup correctly? Check out the way he moves? Do it look correct? Is the back bone straight or has a deep? How old is the puppy? How old are the parents? How long have they (the breeder) been in the business of breeding? Do they have any references? What is their experience with breeding or just with raising Yorkshires? See the shot records. Ask for detail of the litter, such as who handled the matting. Is the male the breeder’s dog? Is this your dog first litter?
Don’t just see a price and pretty words like baby doll face, “tea-cup” tiny ex-small and a cute picture and buy. Please let’s work to stamping out puppy mills and ignorance.

Yes, my champion puppies are going to cost more because of the dog's pedigree.
His bloodlines stem from years of dedication and proven standards according to the breed govern by the American or Canadian Kennel Clubs. It's not just two stray dogs thrown together that we have no idea about their history toss together and viola~ yorkies!

As a member of the Greater San Antonio Yorkshire Terriers Club, I urge you to gain knowledge from experts about canine nutrition, health, training and development. A dog club is the place to meet experts on your breed of dog and learn the fine art of showing your dog and participating in shows or just taking your little fur ball for a stroll to the mailbox.
Good luck yorkies lovers!

T Lynn, did you ever happen to find the puppy you were looking for and if so, where did you end up buying? Much like you, I am looking for a female (only AKC) and I want one in that 6-7 lb range. It is so much harder to find them in that size range than it was when I got my Yorkie 9 years ago. Now so many of them are the tiny sizes. No offense to people that like them, but I want a dog that is a little more hardy and won't break a leg jumping off your lap.

I am around the College Station area. So if anyone has some suggestions, on places to look within a reasonable distance, please let me know. I am looking at spending about $600-$700. I am not looking for a 'champion' puppy I am going to be spending $2000 on. I know from my Yorkie, you can find a good healthy puppy at a reasonable price. You have to do your homework though, and study the place and the puppy carefully. I was going to look at FancyPups until I saw some negative comments on them being 'brokers'. Having both the parents on-site is a must for me.

I checked out the Charming Yorkie's a few recommended. It looks like she sold the only female in her most recent litter, but I am going to e-mail her to see for sure.

Not all sire or dame champion bloodline pups sell for $$$+ many of their puppies are NOT show-ring quality.
For example:

I once had 2 girls dogs (daughters of my champ.) All sold for less than $500. Why? Because the puppies aren't "champions" and they will never become a champion. So it wouldn’t be right to charge them for a dog that is not worth that value.

We don't sell dogs/puppies for profit. We breed for ourselves. We need the dogs to put in the show.
But not everyone of our pups are going to make the cut. So now we must find a responsible owners.
Is the puppy damage? No.

Also I only want buyers that will take the time out to come & sit down w/me face to face.
Asked me questions. They both wanted to see appropriate paper work. (i.e. vaccinations, names and addresses of past buyers, my vet name and address, dates of care. They wanted to know what we feed them how often they eat. Have they ever had any other illness. What was the temperament of the parents. How do they get along w/kids w/other dogs?
See they wasn’t interested nor impressed that it came from a champ. They were more interested in their new pet.

They didn't just look at my website and see a pretty pics/words. See an affordable price for an expensive dog.
That impressed me!

So don't just assume because someone has Champion dogs they automatically charging a ARM and LEG for the pups.
You should see someone that invested a lot of love, time, and money in their pet.

We calculator a bit different the worth of the dog than a backyard/side of the road breeder whom only see EXTRA money to help pay bills. This is not a part-time job for cash for us. Yes, there are some show ring that are greedy and want to recoup some of their cash that they have invested in the breeding cost. But trust me that money they earn doesn’t begin to balance the expenses.

You need to learn more about the breed and see exactly why your dog didn't make a show ring and you should know what and how to pick a good pet of this bred. It shouldn’t sum up to the Price Is Right
But all dogs AKC, CKC, hybrid bred, or just mixed with the neighbors dogs with 2 different sires. All deserve proper breeding care as well as new home care.

One more thing: A responsible owners sale you and dog and SHIP it to you and never set eyes on you...That is not a good breeder in my book. I would never ship my babies to anyone I didn't know. But many do.
But to me that should tell you something.

Also I will not meet you in some parking lot nor tell you I will come to you. 1st off - it's against law. Secondly, you have no clue about me or where this dog came from. Nor do I have any info on you.

I will give you both backgrounds, paperwork, proper vaccination info and can tell you about the GREAT Grandmothers/fathers of your dog.

Pup mills don't care about the mother or the father. Just your money. And some of these I don’t care I just want a yorkie I can afford keep these people in business.

So again you need to perhaps talk and interview owners and others.
As a member of kennel clubs ... I can tell you the 100s of horror stories we hear from good folks just looking for a lil fur ball to love. Instead many of them got a sick, unhealthy pups and have no recourses after they money is taken.
When you have a sick/dead puppy and all you really wanted was only a “pet”. It's very painful!

Just be careful.
