I was appalled the other day when someone posted two day old pups on the for sale forum so I really do understand the new rule. people here in Kentucky let them go when they are six weeks old . I am so glad I researched and learned from all you nice people on here. i got Ceeby at eight weeks and he was sick for months with one thing after the other. mainly eating issues and hypoglycemia except when he had pancreatitis the first Thanksgiving. Our wonderful vet left his Thanksgiving meal to treat him. he almost died so I know how very important it is to keep them thee ten-twelve weeks. i would just like to know they are sold before then and going to good homes. Someone on YT, I hope. . Sometimes it takes a while to sell them.

| I know just what you mean. People here let them go at 6-8 weeks too. I don't see any 'regular' members here posting them at such a young age. |

| Well, I don't intend to keep mine past twelve weeks unless they end up being very tiny. I have another litter due the first of Feb. and really will need the room. |

| I guess I really do not understand the holding puppies until they are 10 weeks old?? Our last litter the puppy was weaned by 6 weeks and had his first shots then and would have been ready to go to his new home at 8 weeks, but they weren't able to get him until he was 13 weeks. Legally, puppies can go to their new homes at 8 weeks. I really do not think it is the admins place to say "you can't let your puppies go or take deposits on them until they are 10 weeks old." Now before you flame me, and say it is for socialization of the puppy, I really think that depends on the puppy. Autumn wanted NOTHING to do with Chewy once she weaned him. She didn't want to play with him or anything and we didn't have any other puppies for him to "socialize" with, so there really was no socialization reason to keeping our puppy to 13 weeks. I discussed with my vet and another breeder I know and they both agree that 8 weeks (as long as the puppy is healthy and eating and has a normal development) is a good age to go to their new homes. It was VERY hard letting Chewy go. He was 3 months old and not only had he bonded with us, but we bonded with him and he was somewhat stressed over leaving with strangers. He has adjusted now, but I would prefer my puppies going to a new home around 8 weeks of age so that they are not bonded with my family before going with their new family. IMO, the longer you keep them, the more bonded and attached the family and the puppy are to eachother and the harder it is to let them go to a new home. JMO. Start throwing your stones.

I think that maybe it depends on what's best for the puppy in each situation. I think if I'm not mistaken that many suggest them remaining with their littermates to better their skills in interaction with other dogs, in short. I guess maybe in your situation it wouldn't have mattered...you only had one survive from the litter, right? Can't very well interact with himself I suppose. As far as what's admin's "Place"--it's there place to do whatever they want...they run the site, not us. From what I gather, they made the change to the rules after MANY requests from members and in an attempt to keep the heated debates to a minimum....can't blame them for trying to stop that.

It justs adds to the breeder credibility when they have been at YT fora "minimum" amount of time prior to list their new puppies..... I agree, Kimberly..

| My thread is not about the number of posts but about putting the rule of ten weeks old to even advertise. Adminstration does a great job but in reality, I think putting a certain number of posts up before advertising is a much better idea than the ten weeks rule. |

A minimum post rule would prevent people from signing up JUST to post pups for sale and then never be heard from again. Breeders that no one knows anything about and has no clue as to if they are credcible and ethical and if a member is going to be taken advantage of. The 10 week rule prevents them from being posted for sale at too young an age....the "8 weeks and ready to go now and be shiped accross country" type posts.

| Donating YT 14K Club Member | Actually, I'd much rather like to see that the pups need to be 12 weeks before they can be advertised. But, 10 weeks is such a big step and I'm happy for it. But, this is JMO.
