On the forum that I am administrator of, we implemented the policy that a member must have at least 50 posts to gain access to the use of the for sale sections of the forum. And the member must continue to be a contributing member on the rest of the forum by posting contributing posts (not "how cute" or "welcome" posts) in order to retain use of the for sale sections on the forum. The vbulletin software keeps track of the members posts by putting the "below 50 post" members in a separate usergroup with no permission to post in the for sale sections of the forum. They may post in the wanted sections, however, so they're not totally banned from the classifieds altogther. Since we implemented this rule, we haven't had the influx of new members joining just to post their stuff (chinchillas) for sale and leave. We feel we're protecting our members from possible scammers by implementing this policy. This way, our members get a feel for who they are dealing with before they actually purchase an animal from the seller. Course chinchillas only cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $150-$400. Maybe you'd want to increase the amount of posts required, but I personally think a limit of posts before letting members gain access to for sale ads is a great idea. It's tried and true over on Chins-n-Quills.com.
