I think the following rule change is a little harsh. However, I am an avid reader of all threads and see why you felt the need to make it. BUT, I think most of us would like to know that our puppies are sold and going to good YT members homes when they are twelve weeks or older. I don't have any problem at all with keeping them until at least that age (plan to do that anyway) but to say we can't even advertise or take deposits until they are ten weeks old isunfair in my opinion. Why not let us advertise them and put a disclaimer at the bottom of our post saying "these puppies will not be ready to go until twelve weeks." I had worked up my nerve to put mine on here LOL. That does take nerve but now I guess I will advertise them in local papers. I had really wanted them to go to YT members but don't like that I can't even advertise them until ten weeks. it takes a long time sometimes to sell them after we advertise them.

Yorkies may NOT BE LISTED until the actual Yorkies for sale are 10 weeks or older. If they are not yet 10 weeks old, we will not allow them to be listed for sale here. There are no exceptions to this rule, so no threads accepting deposits for Yorkies younger than 10 weeks are allowed.

I agree. It is a great rule that puppies should not go to new homes until they are atleast 10 weeks old but it takes awhile sometimes to sell and find the perfect homes for the puppies. I think it should be where you can advertise puppies under 10 weeks only if it is agreed that they don't leave for their homes until they are atleast 10 weeks.

This is a very good point. I had a deposit on Sadie from the time she was 2 weeks old and was on the waiting list before she was even a confirmed pregnancy. That is the only way you get one of this breeder's puppies -- they are all spoken for early.

i guess admin was offline yesterday and probably won't change the rule anyway. I have another litter due about the time these will be twelve weeks old. I need to know that my first litter is going to be sold or already is sold. As I said before, I really can understand the need for some new rules. new people coming in and making just one post then advertising too young pups for sale. I also understand why a lot of the other breeders got so upset. I did too. But a lot of the upset people are show breeders and usually keep theirs until six months old or older to see what they are going to turn out like. regular breeders just can't keep pups that long. Please admin. reconsider this rule.

It is very irritating to see someone advertising their pups and do it with their first post!! It's quite obvious that's the only reason they join ... they aren't really interested in participating in YT!! We aren't here for their "Free" advertising. Why not add a stipulation that requires the seller to be actively involved on YT for a certain period of time before being able advertise? Perhaps this could work? I totally agree .... we paid a deposit before our Toto was even a "gleam" in Wyatt's eye!! We brought her home at 16 wks., and I had to plead because she wanted to keep her longer. ;)

I agree. Another point is, if a future puppy parent finds there puppy sooner, they can still bond with it more before they take him/her home by going and visiting the breeders, or even communicating with the breeder. It gives them more time to "research" and see if they really want this puppy or not.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here for a minute. I like the new rule. I think it's better for the pup though may not be so good for the breeder. Here's why...

Some breeders like that commitment when the pups are at a young age. Someone sends you a deposit, etc. What happens if the pup cannot be adopted out? What happens if the pup (though had a fine bite at 2 weeks) at 8 weeks has turned into an overshot or undershot bite. I hope that the breeder is going to take less for the pup...if they're going to sell it at all. You can tell A LOT more when a pup is older and closer to adoption age. I don't like seeing very young pups advertised on YT from any breeder. BUT, that's JMO.

I've sold 2 of my pups to YT members and here's how I did it...I start posting picts of the pups as they progress. If someone is interested, they'll pm me. There's really no reason to advertise the pups for sale at all. In the time I've been a YT member, I've posted one for sale ad and to be honest, I'll never do it again. There are so many threads in the for sale section here, it's reminding me of a flea market.

So, I'll duck from flying rocks now. I know I've probably ticked some people off, but that's okay. Just that my opinion is different from some.

how interesting.. I did not know there was this rule... however I have noticed people taking deposits when they are days old.... hmmm... I never thought anything about it ....

I agree with Kim. Too many arguments and disagreements on the selling of puppies. I think this rule will help. JMO

No need to duck!!!!!!!!! I see your point. I have had many inquiries about my little litter too just from me posting pictures or sharing news. But, I just wonder if those people will even be around when they finally get old enough to take deposits on.

Thank you for your feedback. Members are allowed to post pictures of their new litters and talk about them, as txshopper73 said. But we will not allow for sale ads or talk about the puppies being available at a certain date in any threads unless the puppies are 10 weeks or older. Interested members may then PM you and talk to you directly about your litter.

We feel it's in the best interest of YorkieTalk and breeders as well to only allow For Sale ads when Yorkies are 10 weeks or older, as they can change greatly from 2 weeks to 10 weeks. We want breeders to find a suitable home for their Yorkies, thus we have never charged any fees at all to list a Yorkie.

Although there are some that may just come to YT to sell their Yorkie, we feel that overall the selling system is successful, as we have heard about many Yorkies being found through YorkieTalk. We've also been able to cut down on any fraudulent sellers and scammers through our selling rules.

We will continue to review and monitor the For Sale section and revise rules when we feel it is necessary.

I don't really see how this would hurt breeders on here though. We all talk about breeding, then when the female is expecting, then post pictures of the pups when they are born and then as they grow up. I would think that if any members are TRULY interested in someone's pups, they have all the time in the world to ask about them. From everything I know about this forum, members here do plenty of rightful bragging about their new little ones that it's almost impossible to overlook that you've got some pups.:)

I am so tired of seeing people posting very young pups for sale on here that I could absolutely scream. :mad: (Especially when it is usually their first and last post.)

You're absolutely right! I wish that member had to have a minimum of let's say...100 posts (not in the for sale section) before they could post their litters. Posting litters is a privilege...not a right!
