| Tiny Yorkie with GI etc issues Hello. I am writing as I am very concerned for a friend’s four pound six year old tiny Yorkie. I believe I did write some weeks ago when the first problem arose, but I was told the dog was better. It is complicated by the fact that the dog is owned by a couple, one of whom lives here and the other in Mexico for part of the time. They are in their forties, and not without funds! At first the guy who lives here had the dog and the dog, a she, came to the park where neighbors meet, and could not poop. The poor baby kept trying to go to no avail, but seemed lively and ok in other ways. After a vet visit here, the dog was given antibiotics and after a while the owner guy told me the dog was fine. He also said that the dog was peeing a lot in the house. The dog then was taken to his girlfriend in Mexico and I lost touch with the dog’s health situation. A few weeks later the guy told me the dog was in surgery in Mexico for bladder stones and was doing well. Today the couple were both here with the dog as the girlfriend had been to N. California with the dog and dropped by here on the way back to Mexico. The girlfriend said the dog was not well and had been at the vet for two days in N Ca for observation etc. She said the vet had done X rays and ultrasound. The current situation is the dog tries to poop and only a few rabbit pellets or very loose stoool came out and she strains to evacuate. The vet told the girl owner that the dog’s intestines were irritated, but no answer for the long standing problem with pooping difficulty. I assumed that anal gland issues had been investigated long before. It seems to me that there was some kind of GI obstruction as it has gone on for so long and that now the intestines were inflamed as well. The dog had been seen by a vet in .san Diego this afternoon. ( on the way to Mexico I imagine!). I suggested they give their vet a history and demand a thorough exam and tests to get a definitive answer. This has gone on too long and I fear for the dog’s life. I am sorry for this long saga, but I wonder if any of you with lots of doggie illness experience might have any ideas of what might be wrong with this poor long suffering mite! I feel the owners are not getting the answers for whatever reason, and I wish I could give them some suggestions as to what might be the trouble, as their vets do not seem to know. Thank you so much. |

| Hi there, Renewing the prayers. I do not have the doggie illness experience to offer much insight. Golly though, this is one of those times when I wish we could waive a wand .... I was going to say something else, but do wish they would leave the pup with a specialist here while they are traveling. |

| Thank you for your kind comments. I have felt from the beginning how lucky we are to have the people here on YT to educate us on the issues with our dogs. Some people are really clueless and these owners sure seem to be. The poor baby being transported around the country to different vets is hard for me to understand. If only they would have found one good specialist in one place to follow the dog until it was well??? The trouble is I had little power over these folks to lay down the law and the owners seemed reluctant in the end to talk to me about the dog as I was getting very impatient with the way they were dealing with this. I believe in the beginning they just did not feel it was a big deal and did not want to spend the money to do the investigative tests, but now it may be too late. Today they wanted me to have a conference call with the San Diego vet this afternoon, but I could not see how that would help...as I am not qualified and have not the test results etc. all I could do was stress to them how important it was to really get the vet to deal with the issue and take care of the poor little thing. Now I have no idea what happened but hope to find out next week if the owner guy shows up here. |

| Thank goodness this little one has you to advocate for her! YorkieTalk has been a real source of information for me in the past, and I have always been impressed by the willingness of everyone to share both their knowledge and their support. I admire your attempts to guide this wee one's owners to seek answers to her problems before it is too late.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Omg, yes, I remember your other posting well - I felt so terrible for this poor little one ! I mean, has an ultrasound been done...? If not, that would be shocking at this point. There is not a total obstruction here for sure - as she'd be dead long ago from it. But there could be some sort of partial obstruction going on from the intestine itself -or- from some other organ pressing into the intestine. Definitely would want a fecal done as well as a full blood panel/chems. If there are other GI symptomes present, then I would add getting the GI panel as well. What other symptoms are present though...? Vomiting? Bloating...hard or soft belly..? Appetite currently vs. in the past..? What does she eat? Weight...is it up or down?

| Thank you both for your kind interest. I feel pretty helpless as the owners don’t seem to be interested in giving details. Yes she had US and X-rays they said, and I can only assume the blood and urine tests were done. I thought perhaps the bladder stone removal would help, but it did not. As for appetite, she was eating but I think she is not so hungry these days. As far as I know, no vomiting or bloating. I did not see the dog recently, but at first she was very lively and seemed normal. I think she lost a bit of weight. I agree it can’t be total obstruction or there would have been a crisis or death by now. Although the dog may not have seen the best vets, I feel this must be a difficult dx to make. This little mite is so brave to put up with this for so long, and I can’t believe she has survived so long. Just praying some vet figures this out and that the owners take her plight more seriously. I hope they don’t give up and put her to sleep. Thanks all for your interest. Last edited by dottiesyrky; 07-27-2018 at 05:30 AM. Reason: Omission typo |

| Now this!!! Today the girlfriend shows up at the park without the dog. She said they did not go to San Diego yesterday for the planned vet visit. So the guy, boyfriend, decided yesterday to take the poor dog to a vet his friend knew. The dog was given acupuncture!!! I am so disgusted with these owners. The girlfriend blames the boyfriend and visa versa and now the girlfriend says it is the boyfriend’s job to get the dog well. So what a mess!!! She said they are going to see the vet in SD later today, but we shall see. I am beyond angry with these horrible people and so feel for the dog, but am helpless to do anything with these stupid and mean dog owners. I am sure this dog will die on its own or they will put it to sleep to prevent further vet costs. Aaaargh!!! Sorry to vent here but I am so distressed about the whole business. I am sure the next update will not be a happy one. Last edited by dottiesyrky; 07-27-2018 at 07:33 AM. |

| Thanks for the empathy and understanding. Our venting probably woke most people in the US up! Just to explain, this mean idiotic couple are in a weird long distance relationship and share time with the dog in different places, usually Mexico and SoCal. I think the poor baby, who is so very tiny and cute, is in the middle of a crazy relationship these folks have. I am sure money is at the root of all this pain the poor baby is going through. Creatures like this should not be allowed to have pets. I know it was a very expensive dog as a puppy and they probably paid the earth for a “teacup”!!!! But did not understand the initial price does not compare with costs of keeping a dog well! Many people have this opinion as far as I have experienced, when they complain of the cost of a dog. |

| My moms friends daughter has a small breed dog that is not able to walk and she keeps trying to force him to and refuses to take him to the vet. I did all I could do and then reported it to animal control and they did nothing. She continues to post videos of it and I am having to learn I can’t do anymore and staying in it is destroying my heart. Sometimes you just have to step back after doing all you can even when it’s hard.

| Thank you Taylor. You are right, I have done all I can and have to pray the poor baby will be made well again. So sorry you are dealing with a similar sad situation. We can help dogs it seems but not thoughtless people! Hope you and your babies are doing well. |
