| 1 week long diahhrea I've been searching the forums for answers but I can't seem to find anyone in my situation, so I'll do my best to explain. My yorkir is about a year and a half old. We live in Florida so last Saturday when the hurricane was approaching, she started acting strange and clingy and started getting diahhreah. It was like pure liquid. (gross!) We figured it was anxiety from the storm, but if continued post storm. We took her to the vet 2 days ago, and they ran tests, took her temperature, and gave her an IV and such. All was fine from what they found. So they gave us some I/D digestive food and FlortiFlora to sprinkle on top of it for at least a week. It seems like little progress was made since. She still has diahhreah, but it seems to have at least a little form to it. (It's very sticky and almost mucus-y). What is the normal recovery time for a bout with diahhreah like this? She has to wake up at least 2 or 3 times a night to go poop and a few times a day. It's really making sleeping difficult We feed her twice a day like the vet suggested, and give her water when she eats, but not too frequently to try to encourage her stool to not be as loose. And also, she still acts normal. She's all ready to play or go for a walk and her behavior has been fine. Just has the diahhreah. Any help or advice!? Thank you! |

| Do not with hold waster he needs to drink or he is going to get dehydrated! If it is slowly getting better then it's normal but if it's not getting and better then you need to get him back to the vet. Anxiety can cause diarrhea. I have a friend whose dog was sick with diarrhea to the point of pooing blood and had to be hospitalized because of it.

| Isn't puree pumpkin supposed to be good for diarrhea and constipation? Try adding a tblsp of pumpkin into her food. Not the pumpkin pie pumpkin. She also needs lots of water to keep her hydrated during this time. I hope this helps. |

| Just read your post and so sorry to hear your fur baby is not feeling well. I wanted to share my experiences with this issue. Both my yorkies are prone to pancreatitis and dealing with diarrhea and/or vomiting has been ongoing for us. First, get Pedialyte original flavor (not flavored and not generic as these tend to have other additives that will defeat your purpose), I use a shot glass and fill one shot of Pedialyte to 5 shots of fresh water. This replenishs the electrolytes that depletes from the diarrhea. I personally use this everyday, changing their water bowl several times daily. What I find works is bland, bland and more bland for food. The trick is just a bite or so, and see if the stomach is settled, then give another bite, introduce food back slowly. As others have mentioned, 100% Libby's Pure Pumpkin (not the pumpkin pie mix) Eggs are good, boiled or scrambled, cottage cheese, yogurt, plain pasta or plain white rice, mixed in with boiled chicken. Mash in some ripe banana as well. We also keep a bottle of Flagyl in the fridge at all times just in case, you can get from your vet. This regimen has saved us countless trips back to the vet and many sleepless nights. Hope your little one is feeling better soon! (Also keep NutiCal on hand in the event no food is tolerated, at least this will provide some necessary nutrition.) just my two cents I'm sure you will get lots of valuable advice here from the other moms💜 |

| Hi! I just read your post and so sorry to hear your baby is not feeling well. I wanted to share some of my experiences in hopes they may help. Both my yorkies are prone to pancreatitis so diarrhea and/or vomiting is on ongoing occurrence. We have since come up with a new regime that has seemed to make the incidences occur much less frequently. First, we use Pedialyte original flavor! This has been (not the flavored or generic brands as these tend to have additives that can defeat the purpose). I use a shot glass to measure, it's ratio for my under 5 pound yorkies, are 1 shot glass of Pedialyte to 5 shot glasses of fresh water. I change their bowls several times daily and each time with this ratio. Life changer! It replenishes the electrolytes that are depleted during diarrhea. Next...bland bland and more bland for diet. Boiled or scrambled eggs, plain pasta or white rice, mixed in with boiled chicken, cottage cheese, yogurt, Earths Best Organic baby food, turkey and carrots, sweet potato, etc. My two particularly love when I boil white potatoes and bake a sweet potato then mash them in with the boiled chicken or any eggs. I agree with the other posters about the Libby's 100% Pure Pumpkin (not the pumkin pie mix) and mash a little banana in too. We find that feeding just a few bites at a time until we are certain the diarrhea has stopped works good. We have NutriCal for those times that food isn't tolerated so it's just peace of mind to know a little high calorie nutrition got in. And lastly....we keep on hand (from Vet) a bottle of Flagyl in the fridge at all time, this combination has saved us countless trips to the vet and many sleepless nights. Hope your little one is feeling better and I am sure you will get a lot of wonderful advice from all the other moms and dads on this forum! Keep us updated! |

| Outside of stuff for diarrhea I'd look in to stuff to ease the anxiety she still may be suffering from it?

| Sorry for the double post! :P I'm new here and wasn't sure if my reply was being shown. Also, please note: the Pedilyte ratios I use are 1/2 shot glass of Pedilyte to 5 shot glasses of water. In reference: my yorkies are both under 5 pounds each. |

| My vet told me to watch out with pure pumpkin, for it can also cause the opposite effect and make diarrhea worse. My JB had a bad experience at the Vet last Wednesday..tons of other dogs running around the office plus he was taken away from me for a chest x-ray. As soon as we left the office he had diarrhea. I mean right afterwards out front of his office in the "potty" area. I waited to see if he would get better and I called the vet Saturday. Started him on boiled chicken and white rice. It has been about 2 1/2 days on the diet and no luck so the vet told me to add 1/2 tsp of Imodium twice a day to see if that helps. I started that this afternoon. If his stool is not better by Wednesday night they need a stool sample. I have been lucky because he is not going 2-3 times an hour, He has been going on his regular schedule but when he does, it is diarrhea. He is happy as ever and drinking and eating fine. Good luck with your furbaby!

| Any diarrhea that lasts more than 24 hours in a small dog is a major concern. A vet visit should be done and IMO blood work done! They are tiny and can end up dehydrated and have electrolyte imbalances.
