Hi! I just read your post and so sorry to hear your baby is not feeling well. I wanted to share some of my experiences in hopes they may help. Both my yorkies are prone to pancreatitis so diarrhea and/or vomiting is on ongoing occurrence. We have since come up with a new regime that has seemed to make the incidences occur much less frequently. First, we use Pedialyte original flavor! This has been (not the flavored or generic brands as these tend to have additives that can defeat the purpose). I use a shot glass to measure, it's ratio for my under 5 pound yorkies, are 1 shot glass of Pedialyte to 5 shot glasses of fresh water. I change their bowls several times daily and each time with this ratio. Life changer! It replenishes the electrolytes that are depleted during diarrhea. Next...bland bland and more bland for diet. Boiled or scrambled eggs, plain pasta or white rice, mixed in with boiled chicken, cottage cheese, yogurt, Earths Best Organic baby food, turkey and carrots, sweet potato, etc. My two particularly love when I boil white potatoes and bake a sweet potato then mash them in with the boiled chicken or any eggs. I agree with the other posters about the Libby's 100% Pure Pumpkin (not the pumkin pie mix) and mash a little banana in too. We find that feeding just a few bites at a time until we are certain the diarrhea has stopped works good. We have NutriCal for those times that food isn't tolerated so it's just peace of mind to know a little high calorie nutrition got in. And lastly....we keep on hand (from Vet) a bottle of Flagyl in the fridge at all time, this combination has saved us countless trips to the vet and many sleepless nights. Hope your little one is feeling better and I am sure you will get a lot of wonderful advice from all the other moms and dads on this forum! Keep us updated! |
