I understand that. Start saving now and you will be surprised how fast it will add up. Sadly, vet bills can be very expensive. Even for a healthy vet visit.

Glad you went to the vet and that he should be ok. I also encourage you to look into pet insurance rather then just set money aside it really is worth it especially if he has no pre existing conditions.

Also, you will have to get the insurance through your parents. Your not of legal age to sign a contract. With the age of your pup though it may be a difficult task. Can your parent/a help you with this process?

I would first like to welcome you to YT. Remember, this is a 7 y/o rescue. you don't know his medical back ground. Insurance is the best thing, there could possibly be other issues in the very near future. You came to YT members, asked a question and your answers, you may not have like the tone of the answers. Sometimes to impress upon the OP the urgency of getting baby to vet ASAP examples have have to be used, such as "if you woke up and could not walk would you call that an emergency" . That may have seemed harsh to you, but, think about it. Dogs have no voice to tell you they are in pain. You have to watch for signs, if they are not acting normal always call your vet. Sometime we our selves are not feeling up to par sometimes, we tend to neglect our selves, not always a good thing to do, but that is human nature, with this breed many things can go wrong, putting off for tomorrow what should have been done today could cause the pup his life. YT is dedicated to all breeds, not just yorkies, members are adamant about the health of all dogs. If you choose to never come back to YT because you feel you received to much negativity, what you received was concerned answers to your concerned question, great advise about getting pet insurance. There are NO VETS on YT, but members with years of experience with yorkies and other breeds as well. They can offer advise, suggestions, but cannot diagnose any pups illness. Not coming back to YT does not hurt the members, does not hurt you, but it will hurt your pup. I pray that this lil baby will be well in a few days. He deserves a good loving life. I would also like to thank you for rescuing.

If she does not have a history, there are no pre-existing conditions except those she has seen a vet for.

I just insured my 8 year old with Pet's Best. Some companies have a cut off and you can only get accident insurance, but you can insure them.

People telling the OP to save $10/month is a good idea, BUT if the dog gets sick and needs intensive care, it could be thousands. At $10/month, I don't see her amassing enough to cover an emergency.

I think insurance is the best answer here...and, as someone suggested, it might have to be in her parent's names.

I have a PERFECT example of why Ins is so important. Remember Marcel's foxtail in his nose issue? Well, his nasal congestion (intermittent, but severe) continued...I had to put him under again, they found nothing. Congestion continues and now we're talking about a freakin' MRI/CAT Scan as the probable next step -- which will be incredibly expensive, however, it will be paid for by insurance. ALL this expense, for one measly little piece of foxtail inhaled into one nostril.

We took him back to the vet today after noticing he's not getting better like they said. His front legs no longer work. It has now come down to either he gets better in the next couple days or Lincoln will be passing on to live with my mother is heaven.
I'm afraid there very well may not be a next time for him, beyond a neurological problem they don't know what else they can do for him.
I rescued him from my own family. 2 months ago my mother got a minor infection in her hand, a week ago it turned out to be seriously infected and had made it into her blood. It had to be operated on, she passed on the next day. So for the past 2 months Lincoln has been passed around from family member to family member. I thought he deserved to stay with family so I took him in for good being that he was my mother's dog.

I am so sorry about your mom I can not imagine how hard that is. Has your vet done any testing or anything? What about seeing a specialist?

Oh no ....I'm so sad to read this update...I wonder what on earth could be going on??!! Do they think he got into some sort of toxin or something? This is so odd.

I'm so very sorry about your Mom, that's just tragic and I'm sure she was quite young, given your age. It's so sad that you lost her. I lost my Mom when I was 21 (she got sick when I was 19), so I understand some of what you're going through.
