![]() My Katie passed away suddenly 2 weeks after giving birth of 5 puppies she did well with first 2 then had trouble with a still born breech birth I took her to the vet and he gave her a shot she then had 2 still born and 1 live birth. Yesterday she ate good played with her toys chased a cat and was acting fine. Last night she started panting real hard threw up her dinner and was favoring her right paws front and back. I was getting things ready with her pups to take her to the emergency vèt and I went to get her she had passed away. I went into shock I did go buy puppy formula and bottles so I need help on how much and how often to feed them. I would appreciate if anyone how or what caused my precious Katie to pass. She was to old but she did have doctors car end as doing so good and in about two hours died. I am broken hearted she was my best friend and I need help saving her babies so I can continue her memory and she died I think from doing this. Thanks

| ![]() This is horribly sad to read. I have absolutely no information to help you with regarding your poor orphaned puppies. I did look at your other post and it seems that your momma was 9 years old. My suggestion would be to call your vet to ask how you should take care of them. They most be so tiny and will need all of your attention.

![]() Before we breed, we always ask "Is loosing my bitch worth this breeding?", because often, there are issues that claim the life of the female, as well as the puppies. I am sure you are devastated, and I am sorry for your loss......bless her little hear......tnow you need to do everything you can do to save the babies you have left, so her sacrifice isnt in vain. Are you an experienced breeder? What is your knowledge base in raising orphaned babies, so I will have an idea where to start. You have to weigh these babies twice a day and closely track weight gain. If they are loosing weight, they are not getting enough to eat.,,,or they are not absorbing nutrition from what they are getting. Are they strong? Are they nursing from a bottle WELL....they need to be taking in 1cc per oz of body weight. You need to be giving a caloric dense feeding.... 1 can Just Born 1 raw egg yolk 4 oz Pedialyte 3 tbsp Karo Syrup 3 tbsp Vi-Daylin Pediatric vitamins 1 cup whole live culture yogurt (may use 1 cup Kefir milk instead) This is all mixed together thoroughly and refrigerated as long as a week. Warm before feeding....NEVER FEED COLD FORMULAA TO A COLD PUPPY!!! This formula delivers 14-16 cal. per cc ....give 1cc/oz of baby's body weight, every 2-3 hours, around the clock for the first 2-3 weeks. You can advance the feedings to every 3-4 hours around the clock, after the first 3 weeks. If these babies are not easily taking the amount they need to gain weight on a daily basis, rather than bottle feeding you should learn to tube feed them...it is safer than trying to feed weak babies any other way, and you deliver the correct amount they need to thrive. Those babies need to be kept warm.....and you really need to be carrying them around next to you in your bra since they have no momma now. Raising orphaned babies involves much more than just feeding....they need to feel skin touch and warmth and movement.....at least carry them around during the day, over night between feedings, put them in their nest with a puppy warmer....I have one of those thingsa filled with rice or beans, that you heat in the microwave and then put it around your shoulders for neck pain....it is long and I curl it around into a circle, cover it with a blanket and nestle them in that....they cour up next to it just like it is momma....This should get you started....good luck with your little ones....you have a rough road ahead of you for the next month, but this is what we must do in such unfortunate circumstances......

![]() Blood clot, sepsis from retained placenta, eclampsia....she should have been able to have a littler of puppies at 9 years old IF SHE HAD BEEN kept in tip top shape, nutritionally and medically....tracking blood work, etc....if she was a strong healthy breeder, she could have easily had a litter....there is no telling what actually went wrong here....I am surprised the babies are still alive 2 weeks after momma died....op is doing something right.....

![]() To all she gave birth on the 5th of June. She passed on the 19th the puppies are doing fine they are eating and very active. Katie Mae was doing great that night she ate good and played with her toys she even chased a cat in the back yard around midnight she came to me panting very hard a favoring her right side both paws. I started getting things ready found a emergency get close and when I went to get her she had passed.: I was lost my wife and I were heart broken. I am upset with myself because I was going to have her spayed a while back and the doctor I use didn't want to because at the time she was seven. The puppie are eating well we have an older bitch who is helping them go to the bathroom. We are loving them all the time and letting them rest. We have the two females bit big dogs that are being a mother so far and we are just trying to make sure they eat. Katie was on antibiotics for ten days and with her acting like her self all day eating and drinking then in a matter of minutes she was sick panting throwing up her dinner and her stomach was bloated and tight this is why I we going to rush her to the night vet. I have never had this happen so fast a healthy active my best friend die in a couple hours we do live in aw Houston
