| Help! Teeny baby - Advice would be great! I've seen people being not so nice and quite frankly don't care. My relative's yorkie had another litter of puppies yesterday. There is a tiny, tiny one who is not doing well. I'm taking them nutri-cal and have told them to keep him wrapped up and warm. They said he's pretty limp but will take water from a dropper. Do you have any advice? Besides "Take him to the vet" because I can tell you they won't be doing this. I DO NOT AGREE WITH THIS but it's the way they are. Hence the reason we got Ellie from them much sooner than all of you suggest. But we've been very fortunate with her. |

| Why don't you just post this in the breeder's section and see if one of them can help ...some of them have the patience of saints and I know they will give suggestions. If someone I knew refused to take a puppy like that to a vet, I don't think I would be bothering to post on an online forum asking for advice...that's just me. I don't enable irresponsible behavior. Of course you and many others would disagree, but that is how I do things...I am only expounding because quite frankly I don't like the way your post came across. Yelling at people ahead of time??? I find it offensive that you come here and say that people must not say "take him to the vet" because that is what needs to be done IMHO and is what I would do. AND it IS what I suggest: Tell your family member to take the puppy to a vet! There...not only for you and your family member..but for anyone else who is reading this and might be thinking about breeding. Breeding these tiny puppies and not having the knowledge and resources is just totally irresponsible. If you really do "NOT AGREE WITH THIS" why are you okaying it? I hope the puppy survives.

There are only three things I can add, whether you appreciate my time or not: 1) Take the baby to the vet 2) Learn how to tube feed this weakling 3) Sit and watch the baby die (Obviously, these people are continuing to breed irresponsibly, without a clue what they are doing. How sad for the innocent dogs that are going to die at their hands.......) These are the options they have. Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 05-24-2013 at 04:24 PM.

| Puppy Well, it seems that your are doing the right things for this tiny baby....keeping him warm, hydrated and nourished as best you can. But this tiny needs professional help if he is to survive. There is not much anyone here can advise what else to do without examining the baby. You say your relatives will not see a vet, so it looks like the poor little mite will have to struggle on without professional help and possibly die from malnutrition, or something else. The fact that your relative continues to breed pups without the necessary support of vet help is scary and I hope you will do what you can to stop this. I do not wish to offend you, but YT's aim is to improve the breed and help others to do so too. Please try and do your best to help this tiny pup by getting him seen ASAP. Good Luck, and please keep us posted on how the little mite is doing. |

| I know you all love your babies to pieces and I do too. I am in the mindset of TRYING to help this puppy survive. Agree or disagree, whatever. I can't imagine sitting on my hands and not trying to help a wee little baby. I do not have to agree with my family member having no sense and no clue about breeding. I do not agree with it. They aren't selling ANY of the babies they have had so they are not "greeders" as some would call those who do. Simply asking for help for someone else. If I could afford to take the babies and their momma to the vet I certainly would. I have my own family, including my precious puppy, to take care of. Sorry for asking for advice... I'll just continue to be a lurker because at least that's safe and I can learn great things about our lovely yorkie breed. |

I can't stress enough that I completely discourage them having more puppies. She told me this evening they plan to give away the momma after the puppies are gone. As sad as it makes me that someone would just "give away" their family member, I have a sense of relief. I will likely consider taking her from them. She's a sweet, sweet girl.

| I feel for you and understand you are doing all you can to help this little one. It is hard that your relatives cannot or will not listen to you and very frustrating for you as a loving Yorkie momma. I hope someone here can offer help so that this baby can be saved. Praying he will improve and thrive. |

| For the sake of the original poster, let me phrase her question differently. What would you do in this situation if there were no vet around for hundreds of miles, or if it occurred 1,000 years ago when there were no vets? Would you stand around and b***h about watching the puppy die? The situation is what it is. She already SAID that she knows the best thing is for the puppy to be taken to the vet, but it's not going to happen. Help her out with some constructive advice, or don't say anything at all. Here is my 2 cents: Keep the puppy warm and hydrated. A little Nutrical is fine, but the puppy will have to have some equivalent of it's mother's milk, which contains the proper balance of protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals. Unfortunately, I don't know a good substitute because I'm not an expert in puppy pediatrics, and my heart bleeds for that puppy because people are not giving any practical advice. The name of this forum is Sick and Injured/Emergencies Talk, and it's sad that people are trolling this thread with snarky, self-righteous comments. If it were me in this situation, I would plead with the relative to release the puppy into my care and take it to the 24 hour vet emergency clinic in my town, because like I said, I'm not an expert. Whatever happens, please let us know. |

It did not occur 1,000 years ago and it is not the first time it has happened. There are vets within how many miles you mentioned...they just won't spring for the money. I bet if they were dying they would find a way to get to a doctor. Yorkiemom1 DID give constructive advice....and YES, it included going to a vet!!! The bottom line the puppy sounds like it will DIE if someone does not do something..for me to say "oh keep it warm and give it Nutrical" is going to KILL it imho. I don't find that constructive at all. Something is wrong..and my acting like it's not a bad thing is not doing anyone any good.

Honestly I disagree with you saying that taking the puppy to a vet would not help....coming here is not helping. At least the puppy would have proper care if you did go to a vet. If you take the puppy into your home are you not still doing the same thing.....I mean if going to a vet is not helping the cause, how is taking them in for your neighbor to care for them helping the cause? All I can say is good luck...I hope you can save this little one. I will keep that poor puppy in my prayers. These stories break my heart. Puppies don't deserve this...I just don't understand people.

I agree w/u..this is just nonsense. A puppy needs help but certain ppl refuse to help just simply because they don't agree w/how & why the puppy was brought into this world. I agree with everyone all around but differences aside, a pup needs help! This whole convo is rediculous.. I'm certainly no expert but this has great reviews for a replacement formula petco.com - Just Born Milk Replacer for Puppies customer reviews - product reviews - read top consumer ratings Also, when I brought my pup home at a very young age, this helped big time! It's not to much money and it will last awhile. petco.com - PetAg Esbilac Powder Puppy Milk Replacer & Dog Food Supplement customer reviews - product reviews - read top consumer ratings I'm only trying to help because I have a big heart and I can put judgement & differences aside for this pup who needs help desperately. Please keep us posted, god bless u for caring!
