| Franklin had parvo a couple weeks after I got him too. He survived and is alive and healthy 3 years later. Here are the original threads from way back then: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ave-parvo.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...-franklin.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...-can-take.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ayyy-sort.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...whos-home.html Good luck and I'm sure your baby will be home soon!

| Ive been keeping track of your thread and am so sorry about your baby. 1st dont let the vet send your baby home unless he is eating/drinking and keeping it down. Yes it may mean an extra night or two in the hospital, but that is easier than having to rush him back or take him to an ER in the middle of the night that costs more. Cannt believe that the trainer was so heartless, think I would find another trainer. |

| I think your trainer needs to shut her mouth!!! We are proof that a small puppy can make it through and Noah has never been sick since!!! Please don't listen to the trainer unless you feel like it's what you want to do. I never gave up on Noah, even when he took a turn for the worse. Please don't give up on Louie...... Quote:

| Update on Louie this morning The vet called this morning saying that he wasn't doing so well today as he was yesterday and that he's hypoglycemic again. The plus is that his white blood cell count is still up so he's still fighting the virus but still he's not eating. She says he needs another night but that there's no guarantee that he'll make it through even with that. He hasn't eaten in days and as of two days ago he is bone thin, not an ounce of meat on him! I can only imagine what he looks like today. I guess I'll find out in a few hours when we can visit. I've been reading up on parvo these past few days and I've heard of people giving the dog anti-nausea medication and force feeding the dog liquids and soft food and the dog does live! I don't know how many more nights I can afford, its very tough knowing that even another grand or so and even then the outlook is slim. Part of me just wants to ask the doctor for everything that he's getting and start trying on my own. |

| I am hopeful your vet is giving Louie an anti emetic for the vomiting. I am hopeful the vet still has Louie on IV fluid, with glucose...that should keep him from being hypoglycemic. I am hopeful he is supplementing that baby by force feeding him, even a couple of cc's at a time, every couple of hours.....if YOU have no medical experience, this baby is NOT well enough for you to take him home and successfully pull him through this....he has to have hydration that exceeds what you would be able to get him to take by mouth. Ask your vet if YOU can try to feed Louie every 2 hours, just a couple of cc's of baby food....while he is still in the hospital....that will give you an idea of how labor intensive it will be to take Louie home at this stage of the game.....he should get something to keep him from vomiting 20 minutes prior to feeding, then give him just a little to start with....see if you can be included in his care, while he is there at the vet office....you are looking at complete devotion to Louie 24/7 if you take him home....I do not think that is something you are going to be able to do at this level of his illness, with no medical training behind you....I am praying for little Louie as well as you, sweetie. |

| I would never attempt to care for such a sick and tiny pup on my own. They can go down so quickly. I know it is a big strain but you have already invested so much...I hope you can give him another day or two at the vet. Prayers for Louie and for you...

| Sad Sad Day We went to the vets office today at 5pm hoping to see a healthier puppy. We sat waiting for 45 minutes until they finally brought him in. As soon as I saw him tears filled my eyes, he looked the sickest I had ever seen him. Even more so than the first day. He just layed there in the towel. He wouldn't even lift his head, his eyes were partially closed and kept rolling back. The vet said she would give him a quick shot of glucose to perk him up and even after that absolutely nothing. He still hadn't eaten and I pulled back the towel laying over his body and he was emaciated. Nothing but skin and bone. Every bone in his body poked through his skin. The doctor said he had no protein and that she was really worried about him. His white blood cell count was very low and he had definitely taken a turn for the worse. She said our option was to take him over to another hospital for more IV's and a possible blood transfusion or to euthanize him. This was the toughest decision I've ever had to face. I knew he was in so much pain, he had NOTHING on his bones so I can only imagine the pain he would go through being poked and proded more. She said he refuses to eat and that force feeding would only cause him to throw up. I lifted up one of his lips and looked into his mouth. It looked like they had tried to jam some soft dog food in there. He wouldnt open his mouth he was so weak and it almost seemed glued shut and stiff. I balled my eyes out wanting to think that after two more days he would be better but I knew and the doctor knew that the chance was slim and to keep him in pain and suffering would be cruel and selfish of me. Basically, she said they can sustain him on glucose but if he refuses to eat he will die no matter what they do. It looked as if he were going to die any second when looking at him on that table. I did what I thought was right and gave them the o.k to euthanize little Louie. She agreed that it was a "sound" choice. As me and my family cried for the little baby the veterinarian began to cry as well. I think everyone in the office had grown to love and care for him. I whispered in his ear that I loved him and I was sorry that we didn't get to do all the things we had planned on doing. Made a cross on his forhead and gave a kiss good-bye. It was the hardest thing Ive ever had to do and I've been crying ever since leaving the office. Thank you all for your love and support and caring advice. It was so much appreciated. God bless all of you and your babies. |

| Any update? I work at a vet clinic, and we have lots of parvo cases, and i would say 99 % survive, and do awesome. We have very very few die,, i dont remember the last time we had one die, prob at least a year or so ago. We never feed while they are still vomiting. They have everything in their fluids to survive. |

| I am so, so sorry for your loss. I just recently went through the sickness and loss of one of my Yorkies, and it was the hardest thing in the world, but it is comforting to know that at least they are not suffering anymore.. Rip little Louie.
