| ![]() Shawn, I hope Gatsby will be comforted having you sleep on the floor next to him. Poor baby. Sending more gentle hugs to your sweet little guy. I am very happy to hear the Corgi owner is doing the right thing and I hope insurance covers the medical bills.

| ![]() Lots more good advise and questions. In regard to the pain medication question, he seems to be in much less pain already and he is on good medication for that, in fact I would like to see if we could lower it so he could poop. He has not done that since we brought him home. I think a lot of his crying was because he wanted to be with the pack night before last. He did not whine at all last night when we all camped out on the floor as a team. The question about the insurance is just what I was worried about. But we did not ask her that, and she may not have even spoke to her agent yet. We'll see, but in a broader context its irrelevant to us, it's the owner's issue. Their corgi did start on their property before it ran across the street.. |

| ![]() Just seeing this, so sorry to read about Gatsby's terrible tragedy, happy to hear he is at home and doing better. Prayers and Hugs for you and Gatsby. This is one reason I am glad I don't have to walk my dogs around other dogs, we have 5 acres of land. Also I stopped taking them to Petsmart because there are so many large dogs and I am worried about how some of the dogs might react.

| ![]() I am just reading this now as I have been dealing with my own issues with Hepburn's ear, but I wanted to reach out and say that I am so glad that Gatsby is recovering well. Hepburn was bit by a chocolate lab in April and it was a nightmare, but it would have been way worse if it hadn't been for the owners of the dog. They took care of everything and went above and beyond what they had to to make sure that Hepburn got the best care possible. In Germany, there is liability insurance for dog owners and it is required for obtaining a dog license. If your dog does something to another dog, a person, or someone else's property, your insurance pays the cost. If you don't have the insurance and something happens, you can have your dog removed and be heavily fined by the state for failing to have a required insurance, as well as be forced to pay for the damages. I am not sure if there is a similar type of liability insurance in the US, but I can only recommend that every dog owner with any size dog look into this if it does exist. I have it for Hepburn and it even covers if he damages floors or walls in my rented apartment, since they are technically not my property. I know it is a huge shock to witness and go through an attack like this. I still have flashbacks and anxiety myself when I see a chocolate lab. In time, things will start to return to normal and you and Gatsby can move forward. Hepburn acts just like he did before the attack. Apart for a large scar on his neck, you can't tell it ever happened. |

| ![]() I'm glad to hear Gatsby is getting good pain relief and doing pretty well. Thank goodness for the vet that was there to take care of this baby's wounds and put him on the road to recovery. I do not know what I would have done if I hadn't been 7 minutes away from the vet - door-to-door, when Jilly got attacked! I just don't know if my heart would have held out to get her to a vet an hour or so away and involving a long drive I had to undertake while trying to comfort her and keep her safe! Thank goodness for our urban society - it tries my patience to the limits at times but getting my dog to the vet when he needs treatment is so basic to my peace of mind that I just don't know how I could function without this priceless service minutes away. In a crisis situation, that man's clinic is the finest sight in the world to me!

| ![]() Wow, I am just now seeing this and so sorry that this happened to your little Gatsby! I'm so glad he's home and, yes, those bills are staggering. I'm glad the owners of the Corgi are stepping up. If they have homeowners liability insurance - the bills should be covered under that. Sending good and healing thoughts to Gatsby.

| ![]() Hey Guys, I was working from home to be with him today. My GF has been doing that all week, so I figure its about my turn! I dont usually work from home, but I think I got more done today than if I would have gone into work... Gatsby is still weak and those pain pills really make him sleepy. We did manage a short walk today, and he has pooped 2x since he was attacked. We made it all the way down the street before he told me it was time to be picked up. Meanwhile, her sister enjoyed our usual long walk while I carried my wounded boy the rest of the way. ![]() We had to buy him little baby socks to stop him from scratching. He has 3 giant incision areas that have staples, along with the puncture areas, plus one claw was ripped out. Those must itch a lot as they heal. His drainage tubes are not dripping nearly as much as when he first came home, and we have an appointment tomorrow to get them removed, YEAH! The lady who owned the Corgi that attacked Gatsby called her insurance co, and they contacted me today. Even though the attack was not on their property, the liability insurance will still pay!!!! Believe me I am saving all these bills. He also is playing the usual Yorkie game of not eating his kibbles when he is supposed to (his meds require to be given with food). We were melting some cheese on his kibbles and making a cheesy-yorkie stew for him. But that was messy and I did not like giving him all that cheese. So last night we got him some yummy canned food and he was all over that; I tried to mix in as much kibble as possible so he'd eat it without spitting it out and only going for the good stuff. Its going to be hard for him to transition back to plain kibbles, but for now, you have to do what you have to do ![]() |
