It just creeped me out. I guess I was a bit paranoid; but I started thinking it was close to the jugular and that maybe after a needle stick there it started to get infected since she has been so full of infection. I started thinking she might bleed out. I was so relieved when they told me what it was. |
Poor little Summer....she had another area this morning on the other side of her neck. This one is larger....the size of a nickel, open and deep...draining. There must be something brewing underneath her skin. :( My vet is keeping her for the day. Going to xray her again and give her more treatments. Tomorrow my vet does rounds with the specialists and she is going to take Summer with her. She has been consulting with them by phone but since she is going there she wanted to bring her along. This is just so depressing to watch. She is the sweetest pup ever and seeing her go through this is so upsetting. Thank goodness they all love her over there and give her lots of attention...it killed me to leave her there again. :( |

I am so sad to hear that Summer has more issues to deal with. Sending prayers for sweet Summer that her wounds external and internal heal quickly. |
Sending prayers.... Can dogs get abscess or decubitis ulcers?? This breaks my heart :( |
Well an abcess is for sure what she is dealing with. Decubitis is a "bed sore" or "pressure sore" so I don't think that would be the issue. |
That poor baby!!!! I will continue to keep her in my prayers. |

The good news is that her chem panel looks good and so does her chest xray! Her white count is still extremely elevated and that is a concern as she has been on three antibiotics. It is now 46,000 ... really high. :( The vet tech is taking her home with her this evening and then tomorrow she is going back to the clinic and then to the specialists at noon. Hopefully with all the vets together they can come up with something. My vet really does think it is simply because she was left untreated for so long...and dog bites are really bad anyway. I surely hope so....this is really upsetting. |
Poor thing. She has already been through so much. It just seems like it keeps adding up on her. I feel so sorry for her. Thank goodness she has you Linda. Is she still happy spirited? Sending prayers and hugs for Summer. |

We are so sorry to hear she is having infection problems while on these antibiotics. We will keep praying for little Summer. Just a thought, have they done any cultures of her neck wound? I recently heard dogs can get MRSA. (It probably is not new news to you, LJ, but I found it shocking.) We're so glad Summer has you and these wonderful vet med personnel who take such incredible care of her. |
