I am hoping the soft tissue dept has some insight into Summer's problems. I am hoping it is NOT an immune problem. :( |
Praying for good results for poor Summer. |
I am SO relieved. The internal med vet just called me. First of all, the auto immune issue worry is off the table. That came from a miscommunication between the staff last night and the internal med on call. Apparently, the fact that this was a dog bite case was not mentioned and when the vet heard the symptoms and the blood work then it was a thought. Phew!! Her right lung is now clear enough for her to be anesthetized....the vet told me that she is very comfortable with Summer undergoing surgery this afternoon. She will be transferred to the soft tissue department after surgery since wound care is their specialty. While she is under they plan to explore to make certain there is no foreign body and debride the wounds. They feel that they will also be able to close the wounds. They are very encouraged that there is quite a bit of granulation that has taken place over the past couple of weeks. They are going to scope her trachea and esophagus...and also will be doing a wash and culture of her right lung. After this is completed this afternoon, I will be hearing from the soft tissue surgeon or student assigned to Summer. I am SO relieved knowing that something is going to be done today! They are covering every single possibility so we will definitely know what's up today. The vet is very encouraged and feels that Summer is going to be just fine...just a matter of finding out what antibiotic will work best....getting some weight on her little bones and then being a happy girl! I will post an update later today after I hear from them. |
This is good to hear. This sure has been a roller coaster ride. |
I'm so happy to see the latest report about Summer. I'm glad that they will be working on her today. Prayers still continue. |
We will continue to pray for little Summer and her surgery. |
OMG she is failing. They are giving her plasma now. Her B/P had dropped this morning but they got it up....it is down again. They are afraid of anesthetizing her and yet that is the only choice. I am just heartsick right now. PRAY HARD...please. :( |
I'm so sorry. I'm praying for her. |
Oh my god no...praying, praying. Any word? |
Linda I'm so sorry. I will pray for Summer and that she makes it safely through anesthesia, if that's what her doctor's decide is in her best interest. |
I'm so sorry, Linda. :( Hoping she pulls through this. |
Praying we see a post that she "pulled up", is in recovery and doing well. |
This just made me sick to my stomach. I hope that she can pull through :( |
I have been tied up today and didn't check until now. I started reading where I left off last night and have been sinking & feeling elated and now almost dispare. Prayers and more prayers. |
Thank God she made it through the surgery!! It will be a long night but they are hopeful. She said that they took a ton of pus out...there was a pocket underneath that one area that was healing...good grief, it was healing with that mess under there. ick They are putting a line in so that they can get blood throughout the night and not wake her. She also is on two new IV antibiotics ... a cefalosporin (forget which one) and Clindamycin. Tomorrow she said the surgeons will explain the next steps....she is going to need daily treatments to that one wound and dressing changes and due to the extensiveness of that wound, she will need daily anesthesia. That presents a problem because of eating...they may have to put some kind of feeding tube in...and obviously they cannot do it through her throat. :( I guess they are thinking a gastric tube. :( There is no tear in the esophagus or the trachea. They did get a good sample from the lung for biopsy and also a culture was done of her one wound. The preliminary report on that will be in tomorrow. I am so hopeful. She said that this little one is quite a fighter. Oh...and she said that Summer already has some fans there. :) Please pray super hard and often! |
