Dog Bite Infections - GRAPHIC 3 Attachment(s) I am horrified at the shape of a little yorkie that my local AC called me about today. We will never know for sure if the owner was the one who surrendered her or if her story was true and this was a stray. Personally, I think it was the owner. The story is that this yorkie was attacked by a doberman. It happened on Saturday and she contacted AC yesterday. She said her daughter had saved the pup...suppose it is possible. I would think that if that were true, someone would have called the police to report it?? Who knows. Anyway....her name is Summer and she was in an extreme amount of pain and had a temp of 104 when she got to my vet today. Her wounds are just disgusting looking and the smell was like that of rotting flesh. I still have it in my nose. So terribly sad and in spite of that the little darling was wagging her tail at my vet. :( She has a large wound on her throat...luckily the trachea was not touched...and one on the inner aspect of her left hind leg. Xrays did show pleural effusion most likely from being shaken by the other dog. She does have bruising. It is unreal that this little one survived. I just went to visit her before they closed. She is on IV fluids and has antibiotics on board and also is being medicated with Bupranex for pain. They will evaluate her in the AM and make a decision then about doing a debridement. It must be done, but they may want to hold off another day. They may want to keep her on antibiotics a bit longer before doing it. She did eat a tiny bit of food when I offered it to her on a spoon. She is very weak and thin....every rib and her spine shows. :( Just heartbreaking. She weighs 5.5 and probably should be about 7.5 . I am posting this with the hopes that it will help someone in the future. Dog bites can be extremely dangerous to little dogs. Infections almost always set in. When dogs are bitten by other dogs they must be seen by a vet! WARNING: Pictures are extremely graphic. Attachment 352250 Attachment 352251 Attachment 352252 |
Thank You ladyjane. This is the horrible reality of dog bites, not treated immediately. Praying for poor little baby Summer. |
 OMG.. that poor little baby.... Oh I can't get the first pic outta my head, she looks a lot like Mya... I can't even believe anyone would let wounds like that go and not have that poor thing seen right away. Thank God she is being seen now and on some pain meds. She needs a 2nd chance, a new forever home where she will be loved like the sweetheart she appears to be... |
How horrible :( That poor little girl deserved better... I'm glad to hear that she is finally being seen by a vet and is getting the proper treatment. |
Oh my gosh! That poor little baby. :(:(:( I am so glad you got her Linda. How long has it been since the attack? The wound looks like it might have been there a while. How very sad. :( |

Let us know if funds are needed for her care. Bless her.:( |
Summer has such a sweet face. Please, please, please keep us updated on her progress. Those sweet little eyes.... |
That is utterly distressing. May I ask, what is a "debridement"? |
I can't believe someone could let that pretty little girl suffer! From the pics, the neck wound looks necrotic. You can see it in her eyes, the pain. God bless you LJ for the work you do for these little ones. |

Oh, the poor, poor baby. Even through her pain, she looks like such a sweet girl. |
OMG that poor baby. People who can let this happen need to be locked up or worse. Thank God there are people like you to help these babies. |
Even though you prepared me for these photos, you didn't prepare me. It is sickening. I will pray for little Summer, I know on your watch at least she has a fighting chance. |
Sending prayers for Summer. Linda, I am thankful every day for you and people like you who take care of these pups in desperate need of care. I don't even have the strength to look at the pictures because it will break my heart. :( |
I am just sickened by this. :( I can't even fathom letting a dog suffer or have wounds like that for so long. People are so disgusting. Poor helpless little girl. I am so glad she is getting the proper treatment and the help she needs. She sounds like a fighter so I have faith that she will make it through! |
I'm praying for this precious little one. Poor baby must be in pain but she still has such a beautiful face. I hope she is restored to good health and finds a wonderful family that will give her all the love that she needs and deserves. |
Oh, that poor poor baby. She is so sweet looking but sad in the first photo. She must have been in so much pain. People are such freaking dimwits sometime. Hello? When your yorkie has an open, oozing, gaping wound ~ guess what? TIME TO SEE A VET. |
Prayers for little Summer. This breaks my heart, terribly. Would just love to cuddle her and give her the love that she deserves. Poor little thing, hope she comes out of it all okay. Please keep us updated on the beautiful little girl. |

I honestly don't know how those people who work at AC can stand seeing these things....they see the people. I would seriously lose it. They are angels to do what they do. |
I will definitely update tomorrow ... I will be calling them first thing tomorrow. I so hated leaving her there tonight but I am sure she is resting. Dragging her here to my house and then taking her back tomorrow would have been traumatic for her. |
Poor little sweetheart :( It truly is a miracle that she survived an attack from a Doberman (or any other large breed). They wounds around her throat could have ended her life in a second. I'd have to agree if this was really a random dog attack the police would have been called for an loose aggressive dog. When they do the debridement will they sedate her? |
Please do. I can't stop thinking about her. |

Yes, the will sedate her! |
So very sad and sickening! Thank God she is in good hands and has a chance to live a better life. |
My heart breaks for her. I am really thankful there are people like you. I can't even imagine the pain she is in. Just so discusting that so many think vet care is an option. Seriously infuriates me. |
Please keep us updated. Which Saturday did you say the attack happened. I know that dog bites are really bad ,but those wounds look older than just 3days. |
Oh, that is so awful - poor Summer. I cannot even imagine the pain she must have been enduring. Makes me cry that such a terrible thing could happen. Bless you for being her angel and saying a prayer for you both. |

Linda...I can't help but, doubt those are fresh wounds especially if these are already necrotic...? Is that possible or is it more likely these were just neglected wounds? I swear I am becoming more and more bitter towards humans every day and realize exactly why it is that I love my Yorkies (& Kitty) more & more! Please give little one a special hug from me... |
