1 Attachment(s) I just got home and this will be short as I really will not know a lot until tomorrow morning. They admitted her through emergency and the vet was wonderful as was the student who took Summer's history. There are a number of things this could be. She could have contracted MRSA midstream since she had started to improve a bit. The concern is that in spite of healing, her white count has remained high. Then to have the other side erupt like it has is just awful. I will put a pic below of that. There could be a foreign body...or a tear in her esophagus (that option really has me upset). Anyway....they were going to clean it again tonight and continue the meds she is currently on. They are starting over in terms of blood work and xrays. They were doing blood work tonight and also a chest xray and an abdominal xray. They also are giving her IV fluids and added protein since she did have a low protein. The other concern is her basic overall condition...and they are thinking she could have some kind of auto immune issue. I hope not. :( The vet was confident that they will get to the bottom of it and that Summer will then be on the healing tract...I certainly hope so. I felt awful leaving her there. They let me see her before I left and she was laying so still. I said her name and she picked up her little head and started wagging her tail....it killed me to leave her with yet again new strangers. :( Her estimate...oh please...mortified .. hahah! I suppose I could have gone here locally where at least the do discount for rescue (the local people do give a small discount), but something told me she really needed to be there. I had taken my Maxwell there years ago as he was a complicated case. I love the surgeon I use here locally, but this is not his area and I just feel better about this case up at A&M. They are marvelous up there. Thank you SO much all of you for your thoughts and prayers for little Summer. As soon as they call me tomorrow with a game plan, I will update. The thinking is a CT Scan perhaps...but the vet said Internal Med will be doing the planning. The specialist today suggested going in for a deep tissue exploration...That worries me because of the anesthesia, but I do trust them up there. Off to bed! :) Oh...the pic: Attachment 353074 |
I am keeping summer in my good thoughts and prayers. |
Precious Summer... so sorry for her. Saying prayers of healing. LJ, you obviously had a long, long night driving and hope you are able to rest and catch up on things today. |
Oh Linda..The poor baby, hopefully you will get some answers today. I will keep praying for Summer. I will check this thread later on at school, I hope you get some rest today. Hugs to you and prayers for Summer. |
Praying for Summer and praying for your strength also. I hope they can find the cause of her illness. Thank you for what you do for these little ones. |
Linda, Texas A&M is wondeful...expensive, but wonderful. I love them and think they are worth every penny because they will get to the bottom of Summer's problems. I think they are expensive because they are so thorough. They will care for the total dog and you won't have to worry about taking her from department to department. I am so happy that she is at A&M and you might get some rest..it sounds like you needed it. That poor, precious baby and all she has been through...and to still wag her tail when you left. I just can't imagine! I was headed to the pet store today to buy my little ones a couple of new Halloween toys that I saw the other day, instead we'll be donating to Summer's care at A&M...we have enough toys! Keep us posted on her progress when you have a chance. Thank you. |
Thank you so much! And, many thanks to all of you for your kind words, your prayers..and helping YHR with her vetting. You are all awesome people! :) I just spoke with the student assigned to Summer and he said it is crazy busy there this morning, but the vet will be calling me to update me. He said that more than likely Summer will be transferred to soft tissue surgery today. As soon as I know more I will post. I hate this waiting....but I do know she is in the best hands. The resources there are amazing. I had one of my personal pups there years ago and he would have died had he not been there....so, I do totally trust them. |
Hoping for the best for Summer to be quickly diagnosed and treated so she can start getting well. It is wonderful to have facilities such as Texas A & M with all the vets and equipment in one place, and good to know she is in such good hands. Prayers will continue for her recovery. |
