| All are on the long road to recovery. In-Laws seem to be doing a bit better emotionally and physically. Basil is getting around fine, but he hates being confined and limited, and he is not afraid to let you know it. Still no word from the police if they caught the 2 guys. if and when they do, I wish they would call me and give me some time with them to administer some old fashioned Marine Corps justice. |

| It's bad enough when the criminally minded commit crimes, but when they are comitted against the eldery....that just horrific. Glad the family is on the mend....

| Glad to hear everyone is doing better... it does take time. I would also suggest an alarm company, like ADT who does monitoring. The units come with many tricks and programs... like you set it to get a response from you at any given time, if there is no response, a silent alarm will sound and the company calls the house. If you do not answer, police are sent. If you answer, and forget your password, police are sent, if you give the wrong password intentionally, police are sent. The operators are extremely discrete. "Do you need help?" No we're fine (lie). "Okay, just to verify, what is your password?" Bugs (another lie)."Okay, thank you and have a good evening." They call the police to respond silently to the address. If you can get to the unit, there's a few ways to sound a silent alarm... like keying in the wrong code to turn the unit on or off. The alarm does not sound in the house, only at the police or monitoring station. Some come with a battery operated remote that you can carry with you. And the fees are extremely reasonable... At the very least, get the yard signs that warn a system is installed. One never knows, and most crooks will avoid alarm monitored homes. Just some food for thought.... we got one to keep the teenagers in the house at night (door and window alarms), and alarmed our sheds too due to the thieves in the area. It does help one sleep better and feel to safe. Plus you can check the status of all doors and windows from the unit, instead of running through the house all the time, to check and double check the locks. There's also cameras you can get and set up to view online, so you could actually see the views of their house (inside and out) from your own computer to check on them.... I have 3, one is always set up to view from my front door out to the street (I can see the Mailman or UPS and their trucks from my TV or my computer.) Some doggy day cares have these cameras installed and allow the owners to log on and see what their dogs are doing all day long! Can you tell I suffered a break-in at one time? It is unnerving to say the least. Hugs to you and your people and pups!

After we were broke into we purchased an alarm system. The piece of mind is sooo worth it.

We've had ADT ever since we moved to Phx. Someone tried to break in our house at 2:00 in the afternoon one day. They broke a window, but nothing was taken - the cops think he/she heard the alarm going off and ran away. We do get some peace of mind w/ having a system.

We have the alrm on every window, door, siren, lights, glass breakage, etc. A 135 pound personal rotection trained Dog (old, but still can pack a punch), as well as a Taurus Judge with 410 00 buck near the bed, and a 12 gauge with 000 buck on the first floor. Then again, if we let them in, why bother with all of the other precautions. They are still real nervous. Basil however, is feeling good, and hating limited mobility by a lot of X-Pen time.

Thanks Ann. Glad nothing was taken from your house. Glad you had the alarm set. Any idea how many people have alarms and do not bother to turn it on when they leave, or when they are home?

We were told most will leave when an alarm sounds. This is because they don't want to get caught. And it really isn't that expensive at all. Well worth it in the long run. We keep ours on at night even when we are home.

After we were broke into we went over board. The security people asked me what I wanted. I told them I want it to be as secure as Fort Knox. Lol. We have alarms on everything and motion detectors. And a 150 lb Great Pyranees. I always tell people not to try to scare me because my new friend is Smith and Wesson. As far as letting people in, I think we all try to think the best of people and put our guard down. Unfortunately, we just can't do that any more. So, glad Basil is feeling better!! He will be up and running before long.
