Police were called, Marge and her sister were celled, we flew over there.

This is what happened in a short version.

They will not be gettin a dog at 86, and not sure about the alarm. An alarm would have done no good if you open the door and let a bad guy in the house. They live in a great neighborhood. Residents include many Police, fire, city workers, and Mobsters. Police believe the wrong house was hit as nothing was taken.

OMG what an awful story. You are right...they are lucky to be alive. Honestly, I think they need to get an alarm system anyway. I am quite sure they will not open the door again. It is just that it might help them sleep better...I can well imagine lying awake fearing someone coming into the house.

Just awful.

I am just reading all this and wanted to tell you how sorry I am for your family to have to deal with all this. Your all in my prayers. I hope you find brighter days ahead my friend.

It is sickening the clever ruse the used to get by their defenses. Who would not open a door to the mailman and be lulled into a false sense of security when they asked for a pen. I really hope your in laws can get over the psychological damage. I was robbed during the daytime but luckily for me I was not a home. I still will not sleep with my windows open, 1st floor apartment, and always check things out as I enter my apartment and it has been years. FYI I thought I saw them casing my place again about 6 months later. I called the police and they said it is common for them to wait for you to replace the stolen items and pay a return visit. The suspects were a woman in a jogging outfit who was stretching in my apartments courtyard and a family style mini van was idling in our carport in the back where my back door is located (where they broke in). I saw the min van first as I went to investigate why they were back there the van speed away slowing only long enough for the woman to see it and jump in. They looked like all the other people who walk through the neighborhood all the time. It taught me they don't have to look like a criminal to be one.

Grandpa Steve, I am SOOO sorry about hearing all these horrible events today. I will be praying for your family. No one should have to go through their elderly parents being beaten and abused by idiot robbers like that. I'm so sorry. And this may not make you feel that much better but Basil looks like he is waving at me while he's sleeping. He's sooo pitiful that it's cute. He'll be back to good as new in no time flat

It sounds like Marge's parents suffered a terrible ordeal. I'm sure it would be very, very difficult to get over something like that and I can certainly understand not being able to sleep. I just hope they can recover from it soon. They come from a tough generation.

Soooo sorry....glad everyone is starting to recover. Scary experience for all. My heart goes out to the in-laws with their physical and mental recovery.

We made it another day. Marge's parents are feeling the effects now. hopefully, it will get better. They are not going to be going to any therapy or support group. Old School .

Basil is rearing to go....he tries to make a break out of his pen when the door is opened, so we are up to his tricks. His favorite toy now is one of Carlo's huge Nyla Bones. He does not have to hold it to chew it. Carlo just stares! Basil has to have one of us around now or he will let out a bark. He loves company. You can tell he just wants to run run run. He is so funny outside when he holds up the cast and trots around to find his spot. Tomorrow is another day.

I'm sure Carlo just loves sharing his nylabone with Basil.

Glad to hear Marge's folks are doing okay physically....aches and pains are to be expected with what they went through. Sounds like your FIL is a feisty one! I am saying daily prayers that they continue to heal physically and emotionally!

Glad you are still here with us!

He is doing well today. He ate, barked to let us know he woulds out of the Pen, and is quite mobile with the cast. If you open his pen's door, he will try to make the great escape. That is so funny about the 50 beds. You must have a big storage area or no room to walk in your house.
