| Does this look like bad brusing to you? (Neuter picture shown) Help please! I am a worry wart and my dogs incision area is horribly bruised in my opinion. I sent this pic to my friend who has had 3 dogs neutered and spayed and she said hers looked nothing like this. Also, I am confused as to why the incision is so close to his penis? I thought it was supposed to be closer to the testicles? I did call the vet and they didn't think it was necessary to come in. They said bruising is normal. *Also, they did not have an e collar on him because they said he wasn't licking. When we got home, he started to lick and I know he did it at the vet as well, they must have just walked in and out briefly because I warned them that he normally licks himself. Could this have caused the bruising?* http://i51.tinypic.com/28b4src.jpg P.S-I hope this is not considered graphic-I am just a concerned dog mom. |

| I have no experience with neuter but hopefully someone else can hlep you. I was freaking out over every mark on my girls after their spay so I know how you feel. From my unexperienced view, it doesn't look bad to me. I would think bruising is normal and will vary from dog to dog just like with people. Hope you are able to find your piece of mind soon. |

| He is now wearing an ecollar. He wasn't wearing one at the vet because they thought he was not licking. Thanks for understanding. This is my first dog so I always ask questions because it's all very new to me. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am not familiar with male dogs and neutering but it does look pretty bruised. Hopefully someone who is more familiar with it can assure you that it is normal. Hopefully now that you have an e collar on him it will heal quickly.

| The bruising is normal , however there is a bit of abnormal swelling just at the outside edges of the incision but not too concerning. Just watch for anymore swelling or drainage. If you question at all what it's looking like, don't call just take him back in & the Vet or a tech will check him for you. |

| I need another photo. Can you stand him up and lift his tail and focus from the anus down to where you see air between his legs? Be sure he's relaxed before you click....

| I would say that it looks pretty normal. The incision would have been made near the testicles. Were they both descended? I would NOT put a bellyband on him. It might cause more irritation to the incision.

| I will try to get another picture and post it up soon. He's a little cranky right now it seems so Ill let him be for a bit. I noticed some of his thigh/leg hair was brought into the stiches/sutures. There was a pretty big chunk of hair that I can only imagine was yanking at him when he walked so I cut it. Im so irritated I feel like they did a crappy job taking care of him. It does look a little swollen, but it hasn't increased so Ill just keep an eye on it. Thank you |

| I noticed you are in Chicago as well. Do you have a good vet? I have been looking for a groomer as well. Thanks! |

| Yes, I actually think that we have talked before when you originally were looking for a prices for the neuter and dental. I'm actually in the southwest suburbs. You're north if I remember correctly. Where did you end of taking him for his neuter?

| Yes now I remember, sorry. I went to a local vet called Forest Glen Animal Hospital. The vet was very thorough the few times my dog went there...so I decided to do the dental & neuter there. For grooming I went to a place called Earth pups in the 60618 zip code but it was pretty pricey. |

| Bruising is normal, it doesn't look very concerning at all. However, like someone else said the incision is a little swollen so I would make sure he doesn't bother with the incision and keep a look out for any discharge. My boys incision was in a different spot- but I don't know what is normal or not.

| The bruising and swelling are little bit more than normal in my experience (at least with my vet). Since your guy is 3 and I'm sure the testicles were a bit larger than a 6 month old puppy's is and since the incision is a little high they probably had a little difficulty pulling the "boys" out to clamp them and remove them. Did they give him any pain medicine? to help with the discomfort? Can you use a small ice pack for 20 minutes to help numb the area and reduce the swelling? I'm sure it would make him feel better. If at all possible keep him from licking the sutures. I saw an inflatable e-collar the other day at Petsmart and I thought how nice those are compared to the huge plastic ones most vets use. Teresa |
