Thanks. We will get through it and I think we have decided to go through with whatever procedures are necessary to help him. It could be anything at this point.

Max is fine 95% of the day, playing and running around with Cooper as well as eating and sleeping. It's only slight occasions when he sits and shakes his head. It lasts 1-5 seconds. He hasn't done it in hours and is extremely alert. I have no idea what's wrong, but when he does go into an "episode" it is absolutely horrifying.

I am glad that you seem to be thinking in a more positive way. Things are going to be ok! No matter what happens, you will be able to handle it. You and your little Max will be in my thoughts and prayers.

What I'm seeing from looking over this and the thread about you getting Max is that you had an 'apparently' healthy puppy for 3 days. Your posts mention nothing abnormal and the videos show a lively pup. This seems to be a sudden onset of symptoms, which kind of takes it away from something congenital.

Max's symptoms are alarming and he is in need of the best vet care at this time. The link I posted is a great facility with many board certified specialists and on site diagnostics. There is 24 hour emergency service available.

I have never been there, but that is my vet's emergency clinic. I'm in Hammond, not New Orleans. It's about 30 minutes from me. I have a feeling that my vet will refer me to that exact place if need be. I was also told (by someone who's dog recently had LS surgery) that LSU has a good program.

The first time I went was for my Bijou. She had suddenly started having sneezing fits and respiratory distress. My vet diagnosed her with CHF. He put her on some heart medicine for a week and had me come back. I went back a week later and she was no better so he put her on a stronger heart medicine.

I didn't like the diagnosis because of the sudden onset and the fact that she had always been healthy and was only 2 years old. I went to Mandeville with her and found out it was a respiratory infection. Because of the previous diagnosis, it cost me $600 to rule it out but an accurate diagnosis is priceless. She was much better within 2 days and has been fine since.

I asked to be referred there because I wanted a second opinion. They are the best vets I've ever dealt with personally, by far. I've heard good things about LSU, too, but am in Gulfport so Mandeville is much closer for me.

Karen, just read your thread, and it brought tears to my eyes. Im so sorry your so stressed, and sorry something is wrong with Max. You both will be in my prayers that it is not LS and he bounces back to his puppy self. Im sorry.

Yikes! I would not have been happy with that vet. My vet refers out when there is a cardiac problem.

I am fortunate to have a really great vet and access to great specialists.

Thank goodness you followed your instincts and got a second opinion! You are so right....sometimes it costs more for testing, but in the end it is well worth it! Otherwise you end up with vets playing guessing games while you toss money to the wind and the pup gets sicker.
I am a bug about proper vetting on all of mine. The very first thing I do when I have a new pup...mine or a foster, is take him/her to the vet and along with a physical exam I get lab work drawn so that we can have an idea of the basic health and also have a baseline in case something crops up down the road.
